House Mom
Our Housemother is the official hostess of our house and serves as a
"mom away from home" for our members. She has several
responsibilities, including planning nutritious, varied, and well-balanced
meals; maintaining the cleanliness of the entire house by supervising the
food service, housekeeping, and maintenance staff; and encouraging proper social
graces and etiquette among members. Hired by the Corporation Board, her ultimate
goal is to have a gracious, well-organized, smoothly operating sorority house
under her direction.
We recently welcomed a new housemom, Dianna Phillipi. Dianna was born in Kansas City, MO and moved to Hamilton, MO, a town of 1,200 people located about 75 miles north of Kansas City. She moved there when she was in the second grade and lived there for 20 years. Mr. J. C. Penney (founder of Penney's Department Store) was a native of her little town, and every summer he would come back to Hamilton to visit with the students at the high school he built for them. Dianna graduated from Penney High School in 1970 along with a total of 52 kids in her class. She attended Missouri Western College in St. Joseph, MO. After college, she moved back to Kansas City where she met her husband, who was the manager of Safeway Stores in Junction City, KS. She was married in 1980 and moved to Manhattan, KS where she has lived for the over 26 years. She worked for Kansas State Athletics for over 20 years. After her husband passed away in 2003, she decided to fill the void in her life by becoming a housemom. And we are very excited to have her!
"My experience this past year as housemom at the Sigma Kappa house was a positive one because I was blessed to have wonderful girls that cared about me and that I cared about."
"To me the most important role of a housemom is to be a good listener. I want the girls to know I am always there for them as a friend, as their away-from-home mom and to keep the house up and running."
