Dear Student Body,

I hope you are enjoying the first couple weeks of the spring semester. This week’s Student Senate meeting was called to order at 7:04 on Thursday night with 53 senators and 17 interns. Tonight’s meeting was a shorter than normal meeting, but still full of debate between the student representatives. The governmental relations committee has a couple of big events in the coming weeks, including State Higher Ed Day on Monday February 6th and a Voter Registration Event on February 22 at 8 pm in Johnny Kaw’s.

I would encourage you to explore the new and up-to-date SGA website, many people have put tireless hours into making it into what it is today. The new website has many great improvements.

There is an upcoming meeting to discuss a topic that is on the minds of thousands of K-State students and that is Fake Patty’s Day. The Riley County Police Department Board will host a meeting on February 7th at 11:30a.m. at Kite’s Bar and Grill, to hear feedback from many different Manhattan special interest groups.

Now on to discussing the business we accomplished this evening. Our first bill 11/12/39 improved the language in the statutes about Registration of Student Organizations. The next bill was filled with heated discussion and it resulted in us allocating $3,450 to bring Sexual Health Awareness Peer Educators to K-State’s campus, an event open to all of the student body. We also approved funding of $1,000 to the Hispanic American Leadership Organization which will go towards sending students to the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute. All three of these bills passed 56-0-0. We also approved Indu Seetharaman and Winston Wolf to fill the two vacancies in the position of Graduate School Senators.

Kansas State’s Student Government Association has a booth in the union this week from 11 to 1. So, if you are interested in getting involved, stop by and learn about what we do from current members. I will be there! Also, if you are interested in playing a leadership roll in next year’s SGA we are having an informal meeting at 6:30 pm outside the Big 12 Room next Thursday February 9th.

Wildcat Proud!
