Federal Direct Loan Entrance Counseling
and Master Promissory Note
If you have accepted a Federal Direct Subsidized or Unsubsidized Loan as part of your financial aid award package, the K-State Office of Student Financial Assistance will continue the loan process by submitting your accepted Federal Direct Loan to the Federal Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) system for origination. However, for first-time borrowers, a loan entrance counseling session is required and a valid Federal Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) must also be on file with the COD before our office can make any Federal Direct Loan disbursements to you.
You will be notified with instructions on completing an online MPN if this step is necessary. As with all of our e-mail communications, we will send this message to your K-State e-mail address.
If you are a first-time borrower and have successfully completed your loan entrance counseling session and a Federal Direct Loan MPN, any future Federal Direct Loan offers you choose to accept will be linked to your original, completed Federal Direct Loan MPN. Master promissory notes are valid for up to 10 years from the date the first loan disbursement was made.
