federal work-study

Consideration for Federal Work-Study is given to students who demonstrate financial need and meet K-State's March 1 priority date for submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You must indicate on the FAFSA that you are interested in work-study as part of your financial assistance.

Federal Work-Study is a program that helps you earn money for college by working on campus. Federal Work-Study funding is not disbursed into your student account at the beginning of each semester like a loan, grant, or scholarship would be. You actually earn your Federal Work-Study funding through your pay check if you work on campus. The Federal government pays 75% of your wage through your Federal Work-Study funding while your campus employer pays 25% of your wage. Approximate annual amounts are between $800 to $2,500. You are responsible for finding a work-study job and must be enrolled at least half time (6 credit hours per semester for undergraduates or 5 graduate credit hours per semester for graduates).

If you have accepted a Federal Work-Study award, you may want to begin your job search by reviewing the job opportunities found on the K-State Career and Employment Services part-time job list. You could earn $2000 to $6,240 a year by working 10 to 30 hours a week on campus.

If you are planning to use your Federal Work-Study funds for only one semester, please notify the Office of Student Financial Assistance to make the necessary adjustments to your financial assistance.
