Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant (IASG)
A student whose parent or guardian died as a result of U.S. military service in Iraq or Afghanistan after September 11, 2001, may receive increased amounts of federal student aid if the student was either 23 years of age or younger when the parent/guardian died or enrolled at an institution of higher education at the time of the parent or guardian's death.
To receive the Iraq & Afghanistan Service Grant (IASG) a student must have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and must have a calculated Expected Family Contribution (EFC) that is outside of Federal Pell Grant eligibility range. The maximum award of the IASG is equal to the maximum Federal Pell Grant that is available for the award year, adjusted for enrollment status.
The federal government has established a lifetime limit of no more than 12 semesters (or its equivalent) for eligible students.
