Application information
To be considered for the K-State Dependent/Spouse Grant, applicants must complete and submit the 2011-2012 K-State Dependent/Spouse Grant Application to the Office of Student Financial Assistance. Applicants must complete all three sections, including the signature requirements. We encourage applicants to carefully review the eligibility criteria presented below.
Employee Definition
Employee must be a full-time K-State employee as defined as one on a regular appointment who is at least 0.9 FTE and is in one of the following categories:
Faculty, which includes all individuals with academic rank as defined in the University Handbook.
Unclassified professional, which includes all individuals who do not hold academic rank and do not have a civil service classification.
Classified employees, which include all individuals who have a state of Kansas Civil Service classification.
Regular appointments include all classified and unclassified appointments that are not designated as "term." The University Handbook includes the following definition of a term appointment: "Normally, a term appointment is used only when the need or the funding for a position is finite and is for a specified term no longer than one year. A term appointment carries no expectation of continued employment beyond the period stated in the contract. Service on a term appointment is not credited toward tenure. The Standards for Notice of Non-Reappointment do not apply."
There is no service requirement for the employee to be eligible for this program.
Employees of affiliated organizations (e.g., Alumni Association, Athletics, Foundation, KSURF, Student Publications, Student Union, etc.) are not eligible for the Dependent/Spouse Tuition Grant Program.
Relationship of Recipient to Employee
Recipient must be listed by employee as his/her spouse or as a dependent (“dependent” refers to a natural, step, adopted, or foster child under the age of 25 years, and who is unmarried.)
If both spouses are employees of the University, neither spouse is eligible for the Dependent/Spouse Tuition Grant Program. Affected employees are encouraged to apply for the existing Employee Tuition Assistance Program.
In the event where a student is a dependent of more than one eligible K-State employee, the maximum benefit will, nonetheless, be premised on one parent only.
Program of Study and Enrollment Criteria for Dependents
The dependent must be admitted and enrolled at K-State in a degree terminating undergraduate, graduate, or veterinary medicine program of study for the semester for which assistance from this program is sought. Note: Non-degree programs of study are not eligible for the Dependent/Spouse Tuition Grant.
If the dependent’s primary program of study is as an undergraduate, the dependent must meet a minimum enrollment status at K-State of full time (12 credits) for the semester for which assistance from this program is sought.
If the dependent’s primary program of study is graduate or veterinary medicine, the dependent may be enrolled at K-State at less than full time enrollment status for the semester for which assistance from this program is sought.
Program of Study and Enrollment Criteria for Spouses
The Spouse must be admitted and enrolled at K-State in a degree terminating undergraduate, graduate, or veterinary medicine program of study for the semester for which assistance from this program is sought. Note: Non-degree programs of study are not eligible for the Dependent/Spouse Tuition Grant.
The Spouse may be enrolled at K-State at less than full time enrollment status for the semester for which assistance from this program is sought.
Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements
The dependent or spouse must demonstrate satisfactory academic progress within their respective degree programs as defined within the appropriate K-State Undergraduate or Graduate Catalogs to be eligible for the Dependent/Spouse Tuition Grant Program.
Award Amounts
For dependents with a primary career of undergraduate (full time requirement), the amount of the Dependent/Spouse Tuition Grant award for that semester will equal 7 credit hours at the applicable tuition rate noted above.
For dependents with a primary career of graduate or veterinary medicine, the amount of the Dependent/Spouse Tuition Grant award for the semester will be equal to 1, 2, or 3 credit hours at the applicable tuition rate noted above. The maximum of 3 credit hours of tuition rate will be awarded to students enrolled in a total of 3 or more credit hours for the semester.
For spouses with a primary career of undergraduate, graduate, or veterinary medicine, the amount of the Dependent/Spouse Tuition Grant award for the semester will be equal to 1, 2, or 3 credit hours at the applicable tuition rate noted above. The maximum of 3 credit hours of tuition rate will be awarded to students enrolled in a total of 3 or more credit hours for the semester.
Awarding Guidelines
Awards will be premised on the in-state (resident), on-campus (non-distance education), tuition rate applicable to the fall/spring semester. In determining the
appropriate career (undergraduate, graduate, veterinary medicine ) tuition rate, the Office of Student Financial Assistance will reference the student’s primary, degree seeking academic career as reflected in K-State’s student information system, iSIS for the fall/spring semester.
All enrolled K-State credit hours associated with a semester will be counted in establishing a student’s enrollment status (full time, ¾ time, ½ time, less than ½ time) for that semester.
The Dependent/Spouse Tuition Grant will only be awarded for fall and spring semesters. No awards will be made for or premised on summer or intersession periods of enrollment.
If a dependent or spouse is enrolled in a combination of undergraduate, graduate, or veterinary medicine course work for a given semester, the Dependent/Spouse Tuition Grant will be premised on the student’s primary program of study (undergraduate, graduate, or veterinary medicine) as reflected in K-State’s student information system (iSIS) for the respective semester.
The Dependent/Spouse Tuition Grant will be provided for no more than 8 semesters for the recipient’s academic endeavors at K-State, irrespective of the dollar amount awarded each semester.
An otherwise eligible student will receive his/her calculated Dependent/Spouse Tuition Grant for each eligible semester provided the sum of the student’s financial assistance, including the Dependent/Spouse Tuition Grant, does not exceed his/her cost of attendance.
