Many students look to part-time employment through the Federal Work-Study program to help supplement their money from home and their other financial aid. Working part-time while in college not only helps pay the bills, but also gives students good experience for that first job after college.
Federal Work-Study
- Federal Work-Study is a program that helps students earn money for college by working
on campus. Students earn Federal Work-Study funding through a pay check by working
on campus. The federal government pays 75% of the student's wage through Federal Work-Study
funding while the campus employer pays 25% of the student's wage. Approximate annual
amounts are between $800 to $2,500.
- Consideration for Federal Work-Study funding is given to students who demonstrate
financial need and meet K-State's March 1 priority date for submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students must indicate on the FAFSA that they are interested in work-study funding
as part of their financial aid package.
- Eligible students are responsible for finding a work-study job and must be enrolled
at least half-time (6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate students or 5 graduate
credit hours per semester for graduate students).
- If students have accepted Federal Work-Study funding as part of their financial aid
package, they should begin searching for a part-time job by reviewing the job opportunities
found on the K-State Career and Employment Services part-time jobs list.
- If students are planning to use Federal Work-Study funding for only one semester, they should notify our office to make the necessary adjustments to their financial aid package.
