Frequently Asked Questions

8. How many spots for new admissions are there in the program in a given year?
There is no set numerical quota for the number of applications accepted in any particular round. The program is governed by the need to keep its size limited because of finite resources of faculty time for teaching and advising. The Ph.D program, because of the greater demands it places on faculty advising and the more limited number of faculty available for supervising Ph.D dissertations, is substantially smaller than the MA program and admits far fewer students.
