SpringDance 2012
March 30-31 at 7:30 pm
McCain Auditorium
SpringDance 2012 will be held March 30-31 in McCain Auditorium at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $8/$14. Call 532-6428 or visit the McCain Box Office. SpringDance 2012 will feature a wide and refreshing variety of dancing and live music. Guest artist Nela Nieman will show a classical ballet work. Guest Artist Darwana Tijan from Ghana will visit during the production to teach and set a traditional West African dance set to an African xylophone ensemble. Faculty choreographers David Ollington, Julie L. Pentz, and Jennie Stout (adjunct) will present choreography in the styles of modern, jazz, and tap. Highlighted work will include “The Black Hole” by David Ollington (2010), which will travel to the American College Dance Festival (ACDFA) this semester. A new work by Julie L. Pentz will feature excerpts from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, which will be played by the Kansas State Orchestra, directed by Dr. David Littrell. The K-State Percussion Ensemble, directed by Dr. Kurt Gartner will join the stage for performances of “Gahu,” a traditional West African social dance new to the K-State Dance Ensemble. The Percussion Ensemble will also join the stage for “Echo,” a 2008 work by Julie L. Pentz that is set to Neil Dunn’s award winning composition. Senior Concert
Senior Concert, April 7th, 2012. K-State Dance, Michelle Thomas, and Eryka Stabel are bringing to you Timeless, Senior Dance Concert. Timeless will be heldon April 7th at 6:30PM at The Wareham Opera House. Admission is free. The concert will feature a wide variety of dance genres including ballet, musical theater and modern. Student, alum, and faculty choreography will be represented at Timeless. A reception will follow performance.
Dance Student Spotlight
Dance Student Spotlight, Spring 2012: Tuesday May 1st in Nichols Theatre at 6pm (time subject to change)
Applications are available now: CLICK HERE.
Student Spotlight may include new student choreography, works in progress, experimental works, and works that did not get shown on a faculty concert. Submissions may include works choreographed in the style of Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Tap, Hip-Hop, and other traditional world dance forms.
