Mission

Mission Statement
The mission of the Developing Scholars Program is:
-
to increase the number of intellectually curious students of color and first generation college students who choose KSU
-
to improve retention of such underrepresented students by matching students with faculty mentors for the purpose of providing early opportunities for scholarly research
-
to guide more of such underrepresented students toward graduate or professional school
-
to provide a more diverse community of workers for the twenty-first century.

Achievements from the 2012-2013 School Year

Jenny Barriga: First DSP Scholar to receive the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship.
Phuoc Bui: Scholar received The University Distinguished Undergraduate Student in Research Award and Outstanding Graduating Senior Award.
Michelle Foster: Scholar received Outstanding Graduating Senior Award.
William Duren: Scholar received the IEEE Power and Energy Society Scholarship.
Cancer Research Awards: 12 Scholars won awards this year.
Brooke Williams: Scholar received The Doreen Shanteau Undergraduate Research Fellowship.
Inaugural Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol: Scholars Stephanie Skinner and Caleb Wurth presented their research for the Kansas Board of Regents.
Sofia Sabates: Scholar received first place in Undergraduate poster presentations at the annual K-State Research Forum.
Nallely Barron-Garcia: Scholar initiated into Phi Kappa Phi.
Alternative Spring Break: Scholars represented three groups that traveled to Chicago, Memphis, and Denver for community service projects.
