Mission

Mission Statement
The mission of the Developing Scholars Program is:
- to increase the number of intellectually curious students of color and first generation students who choose KSU
- to improve retention of such underrepresented students by matching students with faculty mentors for the purpose of providing early opportunities for scholarly research
- to guide more of such underrepresented students toward graduate or professional school
- to provide a more diverse community of workers for the twenty-first century.

Axiom of Achievement
Achievements from the 2011-2012 School Year
Ariel Anib: Scholar won an Outstanding Senior Award, received the Commerce Bank Award for her promotion of multiculturalism, was recognized for her efforts against human trafficking, and became a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Kristina Bigelow: Scholar won Distinguished Undergraduate Student in Research Award.
Michelle Foster: Scholar was recognized for her continuing contributions to the community.
Perla Salazar: Scholar participated in UCLA research program.
Caleb Wurth: Scholar won K-State's "The Next Big Thing" contest and discusses the Developing Scholars Program during an interview about his college experiences.
Alternative Spring Break: Scholars traveled to Chicago for a community service project.
DSP Program: Scholars Caleb Wurth and Luis Chavez accepted the check for funds that AT&T donated to the program.
Outstanding Graduating Seniors: Scholars Ariel Anib and Derrik Wiggins were honored by the Office of Student Life.
Multicultural Leadership Awards: Scholars Alejandro De Luna, Karmen Harris, and David Villanueva won Multicultural Leadership Awards which are awarded to four outstanding multicultural students for their achievements during their college careers at K-State.

Mychal Davis: Scholar studied harmful DNA escaping laboratories and ending up in the environment.
DSP Scholars: 4 Scholars are profiled in KSU's promotion of undergraduate research opportunities.
Bobby Gomez: Scholar selected as one of the finalists for the 2009 Truman Scholarship.
Kristina Bigelow: Scholar's research will help improve anticancer drugs.
Jesus Garcia: Scholar researched the push-pull gravitational stress pilots endure.
Jorge Mendoza: A Collegian article was written about his studies on the Konza Prairie.
Jorge Mendoza: Scholar researched on declining bird populations.
Sheila Ellis: Scholar was the First African-American editor-in-chief of the Kansas State Collegian.
