Bridges to the Future, or simply Bridges is a program sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) aimed at advancing the potential of underrepresented students of color who wish to pursue careers in the Biomedical Sciences.

Goldwater Scholarship Winner

 Jenny Barriga

Jenny Barriga (Dodge City, KS): Jenny is the first Developing Scholar to receive the Barry M. Goldwater ScholarshipIts goal is to provide a continuing source of highly qualified scientistsmathematicians, and engineers by awarding scholarships to college students who intend to pursue careers in these fields. The scholarship--considered the premier undergraduate award of its type--is awarded to about 300 college sophomores and juniors nationwide. Jenny is a first-generation college student majoring in chemistry. Jenny recently found out that she was selected for a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undergraduate Scholarship as well. She will return to NIH next summer as part of her program.  Jenny is a graduate of the Bridges to the Future community college transfer program also sponsored by the NIH. Jenny will be applying for graduate programs this fall.
