State Data Center Program

The Kansas State Data Center is a partnership between the state of Kansas and the U.S. Bureau of Census. The State Library of Kansas is the designated lead agency in this partnership which connects a number of agencies across the state, including the Kansas Population Center at Kansas State University. Besides serving as a depository for socio-demographic data on Kansas and the United States, the KPC links researchers, stakeholders, decision makers and various organizations by disseminating information.

The list of coordinating and affiliate data centers can be found here: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/KSL/Ref/census/ksdcmem.html

The Census Information Desk provides access to census data on Kansas: http://www.skyways.org/KSL/ref/census/index.html

The most important task is the preparation for the 2010 Decennial Census. A planning site has been set up at the Institute for Policy and Social Research at the University of Kansas to coordinate the work of local agencies:http://www.ipsr.ku.edu/ksdata/census/2010/ The task for 2007 is the Local Update of Census Addresses (LUCA) program. Since the census uses residential addresses to reach households, it is vital for local communities to provide and updated address list to avoid census undercount. Click here for the LUCA flyer.
