Karthala is an active shield volcano on Grande Comore that dominates the southern half of the island.

Its height is 2361 meters (7746.06 feet). Its summit caldera measures 4 kilometers (2.48 miles)

by 3 kilometers (1.86 miles). This caldera is the largest of any active volcano in the world.
