Federal law requires that every university operating an on campus housing facility maintain a written and easily understood log of all fires that occur in those facilities. The log should contain the nature, date, time and general location, of each fire. The log shall be updated within two business days of the incident report and shall be kept on record for at least 60 days. Any section of the log older than 60 days will be available for inspection within two days of request to the Division of Public Safety.
For the purpose of this log a "fire" is defined as "any instance of open flame or other burning in a place not intended to contain burning or in an uncontrolled manner".
