K-State SAE Competition Teams

Aero

Aero 2015SAE Aero Design Team is an extra-curricular engineering design team completely organized and lead by students. All K-State students are invited to be a member of our team, and no experience is required.

The Team's objective is to design and build a remote-controlled model aircraft to fly with a maximum payload for competition. Two of these competitions are held in the United States each year. Teams of college students from universities all over the world compete at these competitions. The SAE Aero Team allows us to utilize our skills and knowledge outside of the classroom. It encompasses all aspects of engineering, including organization, designing, building and testing. This provides the opportunity for us to learn about aerodynamics, aviation and model aircraft in a fun and challenging way.

Formula

Formula 2016Powercat Motorsports is K-State's SAE Formula Race team. Formula SAE is the world’s largest and most prestigious design competition with 13 international competitions and over 500 active teams. Powercat Motorsports has proudly represented K-State in this competition since 1997. The premise of this design series is to design, manufacture, test, race and present a fully functional, open wheel, open cockpit racecar. While housed in the Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Department, the entirety of the work is competed by students from all across campus.

Mini Baja

Baja 2017The KSU Baja Team is a student-run organization. Our main goal is to build an off-road recreational vehicle with the guidelines of the SAE rules. We use our time outside of class to design, build, and test our prototype. We also travel to SAE sanctioned competitions where we race against other universities.

We are always looking for new members and sponsors. We meet on Monday and Wednesday nights at 7:00 in the student shop, Rathbone 0054.
