Our work

The beginning of something promising

2005 was a year of building experience and knowledge for us. The car was the first we had completed from a completely blank slate. This decision would result in great difficulties and countless all-nighters, but in the end the experience we gained was well worth it.

Competition in Detroit

The 2005 Formula SAE event in Detroit, MI was big for our organization. This was the first "clean slate" design, and we hoped to build a solid base to improve on in the coming years with the knowledge gained from competition.

The most important thing from competition was the knowledge we gained. Since really no-one had been to competition, it was a whole new experience for the 21 of us that attended. The feedback we got from judges and other team gave us direction for the next car, design ideas, and even design philosophies.

Many hours were spent tweaking/getting the car ready as one could expect. Many 15 hour days with little sleep were had, and all voluntary. It really is apparent how much love goes into the projects while looking into the paddocks of all the teams and seeing team members huddled around the car, rain dripping off the tarp coverings at midnight, only to be back working on the cars bright and early.

Our team finished 92nd overall, with a 43rd place on the skidpad out 120 registered teams. All things considered, it went relatively well. Although we were very short on tuning time, and virtually no time for driver practice, we accomplished our main goals. We wanted to bring a solid car and learn how to improve. With a few mishaps (Stalled behind a spun out car and weren't able to restart in endurance), Detroit 05 was a success for us. Of course, the most important thing now is to learn from the experience.
