    aaSIDRA 1.0-Full Update Pack 5

We strongly recommend that you apply Update Pack 5 for aaSIDRA-Full which is now available on our website http://www.akcelik.com.au/SIDRA/update_packs.htm

Before applying this update, note your registration details (User Key, etc) from the menu (Help-Change Licence Details).  If you need to re-enter your registration details after applying the update, please do not apply to us for a new User Key, etc since those supplied to you previously still apply.

The following are the instructions regarding application of this update in relation to the version you have (more detailed instructions are given on the website):

If you have CD version 1.0.4 or 1.0.6, you should download and apply Update Pack 5A from our website.  This will update your aaSIDRA version to 1.0.7.  Full details of the changes will be contained in a README file that will be installed into your aaSIDRA System Files Directory.

If you have an earlier CD version (labelled 1.0 or 1.0.2), you should download and apply Update Pack 5B from our website.  This will update your aaSIDRA version to 1.0.7.  Full details of the changes will be contained in a README file that will be installed into your aaSIDRA System Files Directory.  Before you can apply this Update, you must have applied:

Update Pack 2 if you have a version 1.0.2 CD, OR

both Update Packs 1 and 2 if you have a version 1.0 CD.

To check that you have applied Update Pack 2 previously, click Help-About in the aaSIDRA menu.  This should indicate that you have version 1.0.4.142.  If you have not applied Update Pack 2, you must do so before applying Update Pack 5B.  If you have 1.0 CD and you have not applied Update Packs 1 and 2, you must do so before applying Update Pack 5B.

There is no update pack for aaSIDRA-Capacity.  A new aaSIDRA-Capacity version will be available after the release of aaSIDRA-Full version 2 (see Item 3 below).

aaSIDRA Training Courses in BOSTON and LAS VEGAS (USA),
    and MELBOURNE and DARWIN (Australia)

We are running five aaSIDRA training courses during the second half of this year.

aaSIDRA Training Course, LAS VEGAS, USA, 31 Jul - 2 Aug 2001

This is a BEGINNER to INTERMEDIATE level course.  Basic aspects of aaSIDRA data input method as well as detailed aspects of aaSIDRA output will be covered.  The course will cover all types of intersections including traffic signals, roundabouts and stop sign controlled intersections.  This course is now fully booked.

aaSIDRA Training Course, BOSTON, USA, 7-8 Aug 2001

This two-day BEGINNER to INTERMEDIATE level course will cover basic aspects of aaSIDRA data input method as well as detailed aspects of aaSIDRA output.  The course will focus on roundabout analysis, but other intersection types including traffic signals and stop sign controlled intersections will also be considered.  There are only a few places left for this course.

aaSIDRA Beginner Level Training Course, MELBOURNE, Australia, 23-24 Oct 2001

This is for people who have limited exposure to, or no knowledge of aaSIDRA.  It will focus on effective use of the basic aspects of aaSIDRA, including input data entry, configuration and output interpretation.   People who attend this course can also attend the INTERMEDIATE-level course (see below).

aaSIDRA Intermediate Level Training Course, MELBOURNE, Australia, 25-26 Oct 2001

This assumes that the user knows basic aspects of the use of the aaSIDRA package, including the Input and Configuration modules.  It will focus on effective application of aaSIDRA to intersection analysis problems covering more advanced aspects of the use of aaSIDRA.

aaSIDRA 4-Day Training Workshop, DARWIN, Australia, 27-30 Nov 2001

This workshop combines the Beginner and Intermediate courses.  The first two days will assume limited exposure to, or no knowledge of aaSIDRA.  We will focus on effective use of the basic aspects of aaSIDRA, including input data entry, configuration and output interpretation.  On the third and fourth days, we will build on the knowledge gained in the Beginner course and will focus on effective application of aaSIDRA to intersection analysis problems covering more advanced aspects of the use of aaSIDRA.

These courses are filling fast, and we recommend strongly that you act now if you wish to attend.

For detailed information about these training courses, including registration information, follow the links from http://www.akcelik.com.au/SIDRA/training_courses.htm

    Progress towards aaSIDRA 2

We have made significant progress towards the next major version, aaSIDRA 2, since we last wrote to you.  We hope to finalise this version soon after our return from the USA in mid-August and to complete testing and release it by October.

As stated in our last letter, aaSIDRA 2 will have all output displays presented in full Windows environment.  Thus, GOSID will be replaced entirely, and various enhancements will be introduced to current displays.  aaSIDRA 2 will include various major changes to analytical procedures as well.

aaSIDRA 2 CDs will be supplied free of charge to aaSIDRA users who have COVER.  All users who have COVER now will have their COVER period extended to the date of aaSIDRA 2 release.  Upgrade fees will apply to all other users.

aaSIDRA use in the USA now exceeds 500 sites

We are pleased to report to you that the number of aaSIDRA sites in the USA is now over 510.  This represents the largest use of aaSIDRA in the world, followed by Australia (320), South Africa (110), New Zealand (80), Canada and Malaysia (50 each), Chile, Spain, Norway and South Korea (20 each). The total number of sites is now close to 1400 in 67 countries.  For detailed information, refer to http://www.akcelik.com.au/SIDRA/aboutsidra.htm.

    Much Extended Website Links

Since our last notice to you, we have extended our Website links page significantly.  You may find it very useful in your day-to-day work.  In addition to some sites that provide extensive links to other useful sites (e.g. a Roundabout information site in the USA), notices of forthcoming conferences are also included.  We'll keep improving our site, and we welcome suggestions for inclusion of useful links.  Please visit http://www.akcelik.com.au/Website_Links.htm and follow some links.
