Vice Provost for Research and
Dean of the Graduate School

The Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Dean of the Graduate School is responsible for facilitating, coordinating, and promoting research and scholarly activities, fostering excellence in graduate education, and capitalizing on the interrelationship between graduate education and the university's research mission.

Dr. R. W. Trewyn, Vice Provost for Research and Dean of the Graduate School R.W. TREWYN is Vice Provost for Research and Dean of the Graduate School at Kansas State University and President of the KSU Research Foundation. After graduating from a business school in Illinois, serving as a Staff Sergeant in the infantry in Vietnam, and receiving a bachelor's degree in biology in Wisconsin, Trewyn obtained a Ph.D. from Oregon State University in 1974, majoring in microbial physiology and minoring in biochemistry and genetics. He conducted cancer research at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center for four years prior to joining the medical school faculty at Ohio State University in 1978, attaining the rank of Professor of Medical Biochemistry in 1988. His research efforts focused on the molecular and cellular events involved in cancer development and treatment, and he was awarded fifteen competitive extramural grants totally $3.5 million. Trewyn assumed the positions of Associate Vice Provost for Research and Professor of Biology at K-State in 1994. He became President of the Research Foundation in 1995 and Vice Provost for Research and Dean of the Graduate School in 1998.
