Limited Submissions

Limited submission programs have sponsor restrictions on the number of proposals that may be submitted by a single institution and will require institutional screening to determine which applications will be submitted. 22-1 Water Sustainability and Climate (WSC)(NSF)

The goal of the Water Sustainability and Climate (WSC) solicitation is to understand and predict the interactions between the water system and climate change, land use (including agriculture, managed forest and rangeland systems), the built environment, and ecosystem function and services through place-based research and integrative models. Studies of the water system using models and/or observations at specific sites singly or in combination that allow for spatial and temporal extrapolation to other regions, as well as integration cross the different processes in that system are encouraged, especially to the extent that they advance the development of theoretical frameworks and predictive understanding. 22-2 High-End Instrumentation Grant Program (S10) (NIH)

The NCRR High-End Instrumentation Grant (HEI) program encourages applications from groups of NIH-supported investigators to purchase a single major item of equipment to be used for biomedical research that costs at least $750,000. The maximum award is $2,000,000. Instruments in this category include, but are not limited to, structural and functional imaging systems, macromolecular NMR spectrometers, high-end resolution mass spectrometers, cryoelectron microscopes and supercomputers. For eligibility, a major user group of three or more investigators who are PD/PI on active NIH research grants with the following activity codes, P01, R01, U01, R35, R37, DP1 and DP2 must be identified. Once this eligibility requirement has been met, additional users with other types of active NIH research grants (such as but not limited to R02, R21, P30, P41, P50) mechanisms can be added as major or minor users. 22-3 Support of NIGMS Program Project Grants (P01)(NIH)

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences encourages innovative, interactive program project grant applications from institutions/organizations that propose to conduct research which aims to solve a significant biological problem, important for the mission of NIGMS, through a collaborative approach involving outstanding scientists who might not otherwise collaborate. The program project grant mechanism is designed to support research in which the funding of several interdependent projects as a group offers significant scientific advantages over support of these same projects as individual regular research grants. 22-4 Risk Management Education and Outreach Partnerships Program (USDA)

The purpose of this combined cooperative partnership agreements program is to deliver crop insurance education and risk management training to U.S. agricultural producers to assist them in identifying and managing production, marketing, legal, financial and human risk. The program gives priority to: 1) educating producers of crops currently not insured under Federal crop insurance, specialty crops, and underserved commodities, including livestock and forage; and 2) providing collaborative outreach and assistance programs for limited resource, socially disadvantaged and other traditionally under-served farmers and ranchers. 22-5 2011 Farmers Market Promotion Program Grants (AMS)

The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has announced the availability of competitive grant funds in fiscal year (FY) 2011 to be awarded through the Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP). The FMPP competitive program is designed to promote the domestic consumption of agricultural commodities by expanding direct producer-to-consumer marketing opportunities. 22-6 America's Historical and Cultural Organizations Grants (NEH)

America's Historical and Cultural Organizations grants support projects in the humanities that explore stories, ideas, and beliefs in order to deepen our understanding of our lives and our world. The Division of Public Programs supports the development of humanities content and interactivity that excite, inform, and stir thoughtful reflection upon culture, identity, and history in creative and new ways. NEH offers two categories of grants for America's Historical and Cultural Organizations: planning and implementation grants. Planning grants are available for projects that may need further development before applying for implementation. This planning can include the identification and refinement of the project's main humanities ideas and questions, consultation with scholars, preliminary audience evaluation, preliminary design of the proposed interpretive formats, beta testing of digital formats, development of complementary programming, research, or the drafting of interpretive materials. 22-7 Grants in Architecture and Related Arts (Graham)

The Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts makes project-based grants to individuals and organizations and produces public programs to foster the development and exchange of diverse and challenging ideas about architecture and its roles in the arts, culture, and society. In the Foundation's words: "Architecture and related spatial practices engage a wide range of cultural, social, political, technological, environmental, and aesthetic issues. We are interested in projects that investigate the contemporary condition, expand historical perspectives, or explore the future of architecture and the designed environment. We support innovative, thought-provoking investigations in architecture; architectural history, theory, and criticism; design; engineering; landscape architecture; urban planning; urban studies; visual arts; and related fields of inquiry. Our interest also extends to work being done in the fine arts, humanities, and science that expands the boundaries of thinking about architecture and space." (TGA 6/11)

22-8 Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs: Partnership Grants (ED)

The GEAR UP program is a discretionary grant program that provides financial support for academic and related support services that eligible low-income students, including students with disabilities, need to enable them to obtain a secondary school diploma and to prepare for and succeed in postsecondary education. 22-9 Special Program Announcement for Office of Naval Research STEM Grand Challenge Adaptive, Generalizable Intelligent Tutors for STEM and Naval Training and Education (ONR)

The proposed topic will lead to new approaches for building adaptive and individualized intelligent tutors for STEM training and education that are able to: Increase comprehension for instructional content over a fixed teaching duration and curriculum; Train to higher standards of competence (e.g., expertise), not simply enabling better recall; and accelerate the development of problem solving, reasoning, and decision-making skills. The program will pursue a wide variety of approaches that address six issues that are key to developing the next generation of intelligent tutoring systems for STEM applications: 1) Designing computational cognitive models for student performance; 2) Enabling realistic and effective student- intelligent tutor interactions; 3) Creating individually-tailored instructional strategies for delivering a large corpus of course material; 4) Generalizing the underlying technologies to multiple educational domains and populations; 5) Using the most current empirical research on the science of learning pedagogical approaches (e.g., self-explanation); and 6) Designing tools for reducing the time and expertise needed to build these tutors. 11-SN-0019 (GG 6/15/11)

22-10 Cooperative Studies Of The Earth's Deep Interior (CSEDI) (NSF)

The Division of Earth Sciences (EAR) invites the submission of proposals for collaborative, interdisciplinary studies of the Earth's interior within the framework of the community-based initiative known as Cooperative Studies of the Earth's Deep Interior (CSEDI). Funding will support basic research on the character and dynamics of the Earth's mantle and core, their influence on the evolution of the Earth as a whole, and on processes operating within the deep interior that affect or are expressed on the Earth's surface. Projects may employ any combination of field, laboratory, and computational studies with observational, theoretical, or experimental approaches. NSF 11-548

22-11 DOD FY11 Lung Cancer Early Investigator Synergistic Idea Award (DOD)

The Early Investigator Synergistic idea Award supports collaborations between two independent investigators early in their careers who address an innovative and high impact lung cancer research question from synergistic and complementary perspectives. This award is designed specifically to promote collaborations between a clinician and a laboratory scientist. Multi-institutional applications are encouraged but not required. 22-12 Scientific Cooperation Exchange Program (USDA)

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) announces the availability to participate in the Scientific Cooperation Exchange Program (SCEP) with the People Republic of China (PRC) for fiscal year (FY) 2012. The objective of SCEP is to promote bilateral scientific exchanges designed to promote agricultural cooperation, development, and trade. SCEP supports mutual exchanges of U.S. and Chinese research teams to visit the SCEP partner country for up to 15 days in order to transfer knowledge and technology in agriculture. A U.S. research team may consist of up to five members. Priority will be given to innovative proposals that address food security, climate change, food safety, animal and plant health, biotechnology and other emerging technologies, food processing and product development, non-food product development, and sustainable plant and animal management. 22-13 Projects of National Significance: Partnerships in Employment Systems Change (ACF)

The Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD) within the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) announces the availability of funds for projects developed by consortia that demonstrate a collaborative approach to creating employment systems change at the state level on behalf of youth and young adults with developmental disabilities (DD) including youth and young adults with intellectual disabilities (ID). Funding through this announcement will be used to design and implement statewide model demonstration projects through Partnerships in Employment Systems Change grants to expand competitive employment in integrated settings for youth and young adults with DD including ID.
