This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is an initiative of the NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research, a trans-NIH partnership to accelerate neuroscience research. The Dynamics of Couple Natural and Human Systems (CNH) Program promotes interdisciplinary analyses of relevant human and natural system processes and complex interactions among human and natural systems at diverse scales. The Farm Bill has made available $19 million in fiscal year (FY) 2010 to fund a Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program (BFRDP). The purpose of BFRDP is to develop and offer education, outreach, mentoring and internships programs by making two types of competitive grants: a) Standard Projects: new and established local and regional training, education, outreach and technical assistance initiatives that address the needs of beginning farmers and ranchers in one or more of the beginning farmers or ranchers in areas including: acquiring land from retiring farmers and ranchers; innovative farm and ranch transfer strategies; entrepreneurship and business training; financial management training; conservation assistance; risk management education; diversification and marketing strategies; basic livestock and crop farming practices; the acquisition and management of agricultural credit; environmental compliance; and information processing. b) Educational Enhancement Teams: for evaluation, coordination and enhancement of Standard Projects. America's Historical and Cultural Organizations grants support projects in the humanities that explore stories, ideas, and beliefs in order to deepen our understanding of our lives and our world. The Division of Public Programs supports the development of humanities content and interactivity that excite, inform, and stir thoughtful reflection upon culture, identity, and history in creative and new ways. Grants for America's Historical and Cultural Organizations should encourage dialogue, discussion, and civic engagement, and they should foster learning among people of all ages. To that end, the Division of Public Programs urges applicants to consider more than one format for presenting humanities to the public. NEH offers two categories of grants for America's Historical and Cultural Organizations: planning and implementation grants. Planning grants are available for projects that may need further development before applying for implementation. The Bill & Melinda Gate Foundation has announced the Next Generation Learning Challenges, a collaborative, multiyear initiative that aims to dramatically improve college readiness and college completion in the United States through the use of technology. The first-wave RFP seeks proposals that address four specific challenges: 1) increasing the use of blended learning models, which combine face-to-face instruction with online learning activities; 2) Deepening students' learning and engagement through use of interactive applications, such as digital games, interactive video, immersive simulations, and social media; 3) Supporting the availability of high-quality open courseware, particularly for high-enrollment introductory classes like math, science, and English, which often have low rates of student success; and 4) Helping institutions, instructors, and students benefit from learning analytics, which can monitor student progress in real-time and customize proven supports and interventions. DARPA seeks to develop reliable in-vivo peripheral motor-signal recording sensory-signal stimulating interfaces. Such efforts will involve design, fabrication, testing, and analysis of new materials and technologies to demonstrate substantial improvements in reliability and quantity of peripheral motor-signal information. The American Association for the Advancement of Science manages and administers Science & Technology Policy Fellowships in six areas to provide the opportunity for accomplished scientists and engineers to participate in and contribute to the federal policy making process while learning firsthand about the intersection of science and policy. The fellowships in congressional offices are funded by approximately 30 partner scientific and engineering societies. The fellowships in executive branch agencies are funded by the hosting offices.
A Pilot Grant is a new project in Cell and Development Biology, not currently supported by ongoing NIH or NSF grants, from a junior or senior investigator who would use the data to compete for NIH funds. Tenure and Research Track Faculty Investigators, on the ten K-INBRE campuses, in all areas of Cell and Development Biology are eligible to compete for these funds. There are no restrictions on the number of proposals that may be submitted per institution or within a category. Although all areas of Cell and Development biology will be considered, provided that the research project meets the requirements of being new and innovative, the funding is specifically designed to foster the development of research activity in specific areas in which there is a critical need. These areas are: 1) Reproduction and embryonic development; 2) Organogensis; 3) Development neuroscience; and 4) Cellular and development pathologies.
This program seeks to create a national resource of digital data documenting existing biological collections and to advance scientific knowledge by improving access to digitized information (including images) residing in vouchered scientific collections across the United States. The information associated with various collections of organisms, such as geographic distribution, environmental habitat data, phenology, information about associated organisms, collector field notes, tissues and molecular data extracted from the specimens, etc. is a rich resource for providing the baseline from which to further biodiversity research and provide critical information about existing gaps in our knowledge of life on earth. The national resource will be structured at three levels: a national hub, thematic networks based on collaborative groups of collections, and the physical collections. It will be an invaluable tool in understanding the biodiversity and societal consequences of climate change, species invasions, natural disasters, the spread of disease vectors and agricultural pests, and other biological issues. The Embassy of France to the United States and the FACE Foundation are pleased to announce the fourth call for project proposals of the Partner University Fund (PUF). PUF promotes innovative collaborations of excellence in research and education between French and American institutions of higher education. PUF supports emerging transatlantic partnerships with the potential for continuation after the end of the grant. Partnerships may combine elements such as: Joint initiatives in research and publications; Faculty and postdoctoral mobility; Collaboration in teaching; Shared programs; Joint and dual degrees at the master's and PhD levels. PUF currently supports more than 40 multifaceted partnerships in all fields of study.
DHS requests applications from U.S. colleges and universities to serve as a lead institution for a university-based Center of Excellence (COE) focusing on research and education in the study of terrorism and behavior (CSTAB). This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) requests applications to serve as a lead institution, i.e., Center Lead. Applicants for lead institution need to include in their application their proposed projects from their institution and their partner institutions. The Center will be a multi-disciplinary university-based research and education Center that will conduct rigorous, innovative and path-breaking research.
