The goal of this initiative is to develop, enhance, or extend infrastructure for connecting people and resources to facilitate national discovery of individuals and of scientific resources by scientists and students to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and scientific exchange. The Water Environment Research Foundation, a nonprofit organization that manages independent scientific research on water quality concerns affecting the environment and human health, is offering the Paul L. Busch Award to encourage researchers working in wastewater, water reuse, bio-solids, stormwater, watersheds, and other areas to use their imagination, take risks, and explore new directions for addressing ongoing water quality issues. Recent award recipients have addressed concerns such as maintaining healthy community waters in which people fish, swim, and play; and improving energy efficiency to reduce greenhouse gasses and improve air quality. The Improvements to Biological Research Collections Program provides funds for improvements to network, secure, and organize established natural history collections for sustained, accurate, and efficient accessibility of the collection to the biological research community. The BRC program is encouraging collaborative proposals to network collections on regional and continental scales, especially collaborations that bring large and small collections together into networks. Grants for Standard Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program (BFRDP) Projects will be awarded to address needs of beginning farmers and ranchers in the following priority areas: Mentoring, apprenticeships, and internship activities; resources and referral; assisting beginning farmers or ranchers in understanding how to acquire land from retiring farmers and ranchers; innovative farm and ranch transfer strategies; entrepreneurship and business training; model land leasing contracts; financial management training; whole farm planning; conservation assistance; risk management education; diversification and marketing strategies; curriculum development; understanding the impact of concentration and globalization; basic livestock and crop farming practices, forestry and range management; acquisition and management of agricultural credit; environmental compliance; information processing; and other similar subject areas of use to beginning farmers and ranchers. CSREES requests applications for the following programs: 1) Integrated Pest Management: Crops at Risk Competitive Grants Program (CAR). The goal of the CAR program is to enhance the development and implementation of innovative, ecologically based sustainable IPM system(s). Preferably, this should involve a diversity of tactics and approaches for a single or specific food or fiber commodity in commercial production for pre- and/or post-harvest system(s). 2) Integrated Pest Management: Risk Avoidance and Mitigation Competitive Grants Program (RAMP). The goal of the Risk Avoidance and Mitigation (RAMP) program is to enhance the development and implementation of innovative, ecologically based sustainable IPM strategies and system(s) for a) multi-crop food and fiber production systems; b) an area-wide or a landscape scale agroecosystem; or c) a documented pesticide impact on water, human or environmental health. 3) Methyl Bromide Transitions (MBT) program to support the discovery and implementation alternatives to methyl bromide uses or minimize methyl bromide emissions. The Association of Performing Arts Presenters, the national service organization for the field of arts presenting, has announced the second year of its Creative Campus Innovations Grant program. Funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, this grant program supports interdisciplinary partnerships of higher education institutions and arts presenters working to make arts available across campus and within the academic curriculum, as well as the surrounding community. Applicants must be designated as the performing arts presenting organization or presenter for the college or university, and must be able to demonstrate and document a history of diverse and high quality performing arts presenting, including but not necessarily limited to dance, jazz, and/or theater, and sustained audience and community engagement. This letter is to call your attention to an opportunity to broaden participation particularly of underrepresented students in Ph.D. programs in engineering through supplements to current research grants funded by the divisions in the Directorate for Engineering (ENG) at the National Science Foundation. A request for funding of a Graduate Research Supplement (GRS) should be made by the Principal Investigator of an existing ENG award. Only one new Ph.D. student for GRS may be supported under each research grant. GRS candidates must be United States citizens or nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States. The graduate students must be newly enrolled in, or planning to pursue the Ph.D. degree in engineering disciplines.
The Kansas NASA EPSCoR Program (KNEP) is preparing to award Partnership Development Grants (PDG's) to Kansas's investigators. These grants are intended to facilitate the development of beneficial and promising NASA (or industrial) collaborations. The PDG recipient is expected to initiate, develop, and formalize a meaningful professional relationship with a NASA (or industry) researcher. The grant allows a faculty member and student to travel to a NASA center, or relevant industry location, for one or more week's time. The PDG award should lead to a sustained collaboration, joint publications, and, most importantly, future grant proposals. As instructed by NASA, the KNEP program cannot support proposals augmenting existing funded research projects.

The Incentives and Awards Committee for the K-INBRE is calling for proposals to support: 1) Bridging Grants; 2) Institutional Core Facilities; and 3) Postdoctoral awards. A Bridging Grant provides interim support to help a project in Cell and Development Biology continue for an eligible investigator who has submitted a grant to NIH that was approved on the basis of scientific merit, but fell short of the funding range. Core Facility awards are for the purpose of providing funds to institutional core facilities that support the research focus of the K-INBRE, Cell and Developmental Biology. Post-doctoral awards are one-year mentored awards for facilitating applications to support 1) initiation of post-doctoral research projects and 2) transition from the post-doctoral position to early investigator status.
