Limited submission programs have sponsor restrictions on the number of proposals that may be submitted by a single institution and will require institutional screening to determine which applications will be submitted. 41-1 Roadmap Transformative R01 Program (R01) (NIH)

As part of the NIH Roadmap for Biomedical Research, the National Institutes of Health invites transformative Research Project Grant (R01) applications from institutions/organizations proposing exceptionally innovative, high risk, original and/or unconventional research with the potential to create new or challenge existing scientific paradigms. 41-2 Chemical and Biological Technologies (DTRA)

The purpose of this Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) is to solicit proposals for the Chemical and Biological Technologies Directorate New Initiatives Fiscal Year (FY) 2010-FY2011. This solicitation is an extramural endeavor focused on applied research and advanced technology development objectives encompassing a broad spectrum of topics in the chemical and biological sciences to include Physical Science and Technology, Medical Science and Technology, including the Transformational Medical Technologies Initiative, Threat Agent science, and Information Systems Capabilities Development topics. 41-3 Individual Advanced Research Opportunities Program (IREX)

The Individual Advanced Research Opportunities (IARO) program seeks to attract, select, and support indepth field research by US students, scholars and experts in policy-relevant subject areas related to Eastern Europe and Eurasia, as well as to disseminate knowledge about these regions to a wide network of constituents in the United States and abroad. Sponsored by the US Department of State's Title VIII Program, IARO provides fellows with the means and support necessary to conduct in-country research on contemporary political, economic, historical, or cultural developments relevant to US foreign policy. 41-4 Summer Institute for Training in Biostatistics II (T15) (NIH)

The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) invite applications for training grants to develop, conduct, and evaluate summer courses in the basic principles and methods of biostatistics as employed in biomedical research. The courses will introduce advanced undergraduate students and beginning graduate students in the field of biostatistics for the purpose of encouraging them to pursue careers in biostatistics. The courses will cover the fundamental concepts of probability, statistical reasoning and inferential methods motivated, in part, by examples that include data collected in studies of heart, lung, blood, and sleep disorders. 41-6 Basic Research for Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) (DTRA)

This BAA is focused on soliciting basic research projects that support the DTRA mission to safeguard America and its allies from WMD (e.g., chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high yield explosives) by providing capabilities to reduce, eliminate, and counter the threat and mitigate its effects. 41-7 Advanced Detector Research Program (DOE)

The Office of High Energy Physics of the Office of Science (SC), U.S. Department of Energy, hereby announces its interest in receiving grant applications for support under its Advanced Detector Research Program. Applications should be from investigators who are currently involved in experimental high energy physics, and should be submitted though a U.S. academic institution. 41-9 Characterizing the Blood Stem Cell Niche (R01) (NIH)

This FOA issued by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health, solicits Research Project Grant (R01) applications in a specific area of stem cell research, the blood stem cell niche, an area critical to advancing stem cell biology and its applications to cellular therapeutics including hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. This FOA is being initiated to foster collaborative research projects and insightful approaches to dissect the cellular components and factors involved in the hematopoietic stem cell niche. Development of conditional genetic knock-out models to test the role of factors in specific cell lineages and imaging technology to facilitate following stem cell engraftment in the niche in vivo are integral to this initiative. 41-10 Concept Award for Breast Cancer Research (Army)

The Concept Award supports the exploration of a highly innovative new concept or untested theory that addresses an important problem relevant to breast cancer. 41-14 Campus Suicide Prevention Grants (SAMHSA)

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Mental Health Services is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2009 for Campus Suicide Prevention Grants. The purpose of this program is to facilitate a comprehensive approach to preventing suicide in institutions of higher education. This program is designed to assist colleges and universities in their efforts to prevent suicide attempts and completions and to enhance services for students with mental and behavioral health problems, such as depression and substance abuse, which put them at risk for suicide and suicide attempts. 41-15 NIJ FY09 Graduate Research Fellowship (DOJ)

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is the research, development, and evaluation agency of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and a component of the Office of Justice Programs (OJP). NIJ provides objective, independent, evidence-based knowledge and tools to enhance the administration of justice and public safety. NIJ solicits applications to inform its search for the knowledge and tools to guide policy and practice. NIJ's Graduate Research Fellowship Program is an annual program that provides assistance to universities for dissertation research support to outstanding doctoral students undertaking independent research on issues related to crime and justice. Students from any academic discipline may propose original research that has direct implications for criminal justice in the United States. NIJ encourages a variety of approaches and perspectives in its research programs.
