The Susan Harwood Training Grant Program provides funds for programs to train employees and employers to recognize, avoid, and prevent safety and health hazards in their workplaces. The program emphasizes four areas: Educating employees and employers in small businesses; Training employees and employers about new OSHA standards; Training at-risk employee and employer populations; Training employees and employers about high risk activities or hazards identified by OSHA through the Department of Labor's Strategic Plan, or as part of an OSHA special emphases program. The National Institute for Climatic Change Research (NICCR) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) Office of Biological and Environmental Research (BER). The goal of NICCR is to mobilize university researchers, from all regions of the country, in the support of the climatic change research objectives of BER. The Midwestern Region will support work in the following states: North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. Only proposals addressing one of the five focus areas will be considered for support in response to this notice. The first four foci are associated with inland terrestrial ecosystems and will be administered by the four Regional Centers. The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR, The National Research Council) of the Government of Italy are cooperating in the support of scholarly research. NEH invites applications for humanities research focusing on Italy's cultural heritage in relation to that of the United States. The Fellowships program accepts applications from researchers, teachers and writers regardless of their institutional affiliations. All applicants must have completed their formal education by the application deadline. While applicants need not have advanced degrees, individuals currently enrolled in degree-granting programs are ineligible to apply.
The purpose of the Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Program is to carry out a coordinated program of scientifically based research. The priority is implementation of models with demonstrated effectiveness in identifying and serving gifted and talented students (including economically disadvantaged individuals, individuals with limited English proficiency, and individuals with disabilities) who may not be identified and served through typical strategies for identifying gifted and talented children. The National Science Foundation supports International Materials Institutes (IMIs) in order to enhance international collaboration between U.S. researchers and educators and their counterparts worldwide. These Institutes advance fundamental materials research by coordinating international research and education projects involving condensed matter and materials physics, solid state and materials chemistry, polymers, metals, ceramics, electronic materials, biomaterials and, in general, the design, synthesis, and characterization of and phenomena in materials to meet global and regional needs. The Institutes must be university-based and provide a research environment that will attract leading scientists and engineers. A critically important aspect of an IMI is its potential impact on advancing materials research on an international scale and developing an internationally competitive generation of materials researchers, and this distinguishes an IMI from other materials research centers that NSF supports. The Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation seeks to further the development of scientific leadership in the field of environmental chemistry with a postdoctoral fellowship program. The award is given to a principal investigator who submits a proposal judged to be exceptional, both in its potential for leading edge contributions to environmental science, and in the arrangements for the education of the Fellow. Successful applicants are expected to recruit excellent young Ph.D graduates from the fields of physical, organic, inorganic, biological chemistry or associated fields in chemical engineering, and provide them with the highest caliber of research experience and broad education in environmental science. The Fellow need not have been previously trained in environmental chemistry. The expectation is that the postdoctoral research accomplishments and education broadening under this program should allow the Fellow to achieve a position where high quality research related to environmental chemistry and leadership in the field may be anticipated. The objective of this FOA is to stimulate research on tumor stem cell biology, including the identification and characterization of specific genetic and functional signatures (e.g. biomarkers) of tumor stem cells. The overall goal is the translation of basic research findings into clinical practice in the contexts of both hematological and solid tumor malignancies. Applications submitted in response to this RFA must propose interdisciplinary Program Projects that comprehensively address novel aspects of the biology of tumor stem cells (tumor initiating cells) combined with the meaningful translation of basic research findings into a clinically-relevant context. Each application must propose at least three individual (albeit connected) research projects pertinent to a single unifying research theme. At least one of these projects must address basic aspects of tumor cell biology and at least one project must center on translation of such basic research findings into a clinically-relevant context. This RFA will utilize the NIH Program Project (P01) grant mechanism. The purpose of this announcement is to invite applications for U.S. and developing country institutions for programs to provide infectious disease (excluding HIV/AIDS) research training to scientists and health professionals in order to build sustainable research capacity at institutions in low- and middle-income endemic countries. Eligible PDs/PIs include individuals from U.S. or developing country institutions, with a demonstrable history of research collaboration with the proposed partner institutions, and who are designated as the PD/PI on at least one active infectious disease research grant (with at least 18 months of support remaining at the time of application) from the NIH or other national or international granting organizations. Only one application may be submitted from an institution proposing research training on a particular infectious disease or working at a particular developing country institution. The Office of Academic Exchange Programs/European Programs Branch of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA/A/E) announces an open competition for the Junior Faculty Development Program (JFDP). Public and private non-profit organizations may submit proposals to place visiting faculty in the early stages of their careers from Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan at U.S. universities for a one academic semester (five months) program. The recipient organization for this program will also support and oversee the activities of the fellows throughout their stay in the United States. Anthropology Research Grants are awarded to individuals holding a Ph.D or equivalent degree to support individual research projects. The program contributes to the Foundation's overall mission to support basic research in anthropology and to ensure that the discipline continues to be a source of vibrant and significant work that furthers our understanding of humanity's cultural and biological origins, development and variation. The Foundation supports research that demonstrates a clear link to anthropological theory and debates, and promises to make a solid contribution to advancing these ideas. There is no preference for any methodology, research location or subfield.
