Limited Submissions

Limited submission programs have sponsor restrictions on the number of proposals that may be submitted by a single institution and will require institutional screening to determine which applications will be submitted. Dr. Jim Guikema, Associate Vice Provost for Research, is the internal coordinator for limited submission programs. Please notify him at 785-532-6195, email: guikema@ksu.edu, by the Internal due date listed in the Funding Bulletin (FB 9-9) or by at least two months prior to the sponsor deadline if you wish to submit to a limited submission program. 9-1 ARO Young Investigator Program (YIP) (DOD)

The Army Research Office's Young Investigator Program (YIP) seeks to identify and support academic scientists who have received Ph.D or equivalent degrees within the last five years (on or after 01 November 2002 for this FY 2008 competition) and who show exceptional promise for doing creative research. The objectives of this program are to attract outstanding faculty members of Institutions of Higher Education to the Department of the Army's research program, to support their research, and to encourage their teaching and research careers. 9-2 Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE) (EPA)

Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE) is a competitive grant program that offers an innovative way for a community to organize and take action to reduce toxic pollution in its local environment. Through CARE, a community creates a partnership that implements solutions to reduce releases of toxic pollutants and minimize people's exposure to them. By providing financial and technical assistance, EPA helps CARE communities on the path to a renewed environment.

9-3 Research Interests of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR))

The Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) manages the basic research investment for the U.S. Air Force (USAF). 9-4 IR-4, Minor Crop Pest Management (USDA)

IR-4 facilitates minor/specialty crop protection by providing expert assistance with product development and registration. IR-4 positively impacts the ability of research and extension personnel, producers, grower organizations, and others to provide a continuous supply of affordable minor and specialty crops to the public. IR-4 is the only publicly supported research program in the United States that provides this service. 9-5 Institutes for Advanced Topics in the Digital Humanities (NEH)

As part of the Endowment-wide Digital Humanities Initiative, these grants support national or regional (multi-state) research and training programs on approaches in humanities computing. Through these programs, the NEH seeks to increase the number of humanities scholars using digital technology in their research and broadly disseminate knowledge about advanced technology applications relevant to the humanities. 9-7 Disability Rehabilitation Research Projects (DRRP's) (ED)

The purpose of the DRRP program is to improve the effectiveness of services by developing methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technologies that advance a wide range of independent living and employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with the most severe disabilities. 9-9 Nuclear Education Program Faculty Development Grants (NRC)

The Faculty Development Grants Program recognizes the need to attract and retain highly-qualified junior faculty in academic teaching careers. Funding under this announcement is intended to support new faculty in the nuclear-related fields of Nuclear Engineering, Health Physics, and Radiochemistry. The grants specifically target probationary, tenure-track faculty in these academic areas during the first 6 years of their career. Grants could include support for developing proposals for research and small amounts for initiating or continuing research projects in their areas of expertise. 9-10 Petascale Computing Resource Allocations (PRAC) (NSF)

In 2011, a new NSF-funded petascale computing systems, Blue Waters, will go online at the University of Illinois. The goal of this facility is to open up new possibilities in science and engineering by providing computational capability that makes it possible for investigators to tackle much larger and more complex research challenges across a wide spectrum of domains. The purpose of this solicitation is to invite research groups that have a compelling science or engineering challenge that will require petascale computing resources to submit requests for allocations of resources on the Blue Waters system. Proposals from or including junior researchers are encouraged as one of the goals of this solicitation is to build a community capable of using petascale computing. 9-11 Research Opportunities in Aeronautics (NASA)

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Headquarters has released a NASA Research Announcement (NRA) for foundational research in support of the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD). This NASA Research Announcement (NRA) solicits fundamental research proposals for the four programs within ARMD: the Airspace Systems Program, the Aviation Safety Program, the Fundamental Aeronautics Program and Aeronautics Test Program. 9-12 Theoretical Foundations 2008 (TF08) (NSF)

The Theoretical Foundations (TF) program supports basic research into the central issues underlying computer and information science and technology. Research and education projects sponsored by the program strengthen the intellectual foundations of algorithms and theoretical computer science, cryptography, network and communication theory, information theory, numeric and scientific computing, signal processing, and geometric algorithms, and bring advanced mathematical capabilities from these areas to bear on fundamental problems throughout science and engineering. The program encourages investigators to include in their proposals innovative curricula or education materials to help advance the training of new experts in the cognate areas served by TF. 9-13 NIH-COBRE Center in Protein Structure and Function Research (KU)

The University of Kansas' NIH-COBRE Center in Protein Structure and Function is receiving a five year renewal and has the opportunity to add one new Research Project and up to two new Pilot Projects to the center. Research projects must fit well with the scientific theme of the center and utilize one or more of the COBRE Core Labs. COBRE Research Projects are restricted to junior tenure-track faculty members. However Pilot Projects may be awarded to junior faculty, former COBRE graduates, or other faculty making a significant new effort to incorporate aspects of Protein Structure and Function into their research programs.

9-14 Innovation Funding Grants (UMHM)

The United Methodist Health Ministry Fund announces a special allocation of $500,000 for Innovation Funding grants in 2008. The funding is designed to attract and support new approaches to oral health, access to health care, and healthy lifestyles in Kansas. Applying for an Innovation Funding grant is a two-step process. An initial letter of intent must be submitted to the Health Fund by April 7, 2008. Those subsequently invited to submit a full proposal will be notified by May 26.

9-16 Cultural Cooperation Between Spain's Ministry of Culture and United States Universities (Spain)
