(DMI) works proactively with industry leaders and innovators to increase and apply knowledge that leverages opportunities to expand dairy markets. As part of this role, DMI manages the funding of research initiatives of the National Dairy Council (NDC). NDC is interested in receiving pre-proposals in the following research areas: 1) NDC Discovery Pilot Project Program (D) - this program is intended to identify novel and innovative positions or benefits for dairy products, components, or ingredients in promoting health and well-being; 2) NDC Supplemental Support (S) - NDC continues to look for opportunities to address the role of dairy products in a healthy diet for promoting health and well-being by providing supplemental support to: a) enhance or extend non-dairy industry projects (e.g. NIH, USDA funded projects); or b) conduct secondary analyses on data sets from existing research. 4-3 Conservation Innovation Grants (USDA)Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) is a voluntary program intended to stimulate the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies while leveraging Federal investment in environmental enhancement and protection, in conjunction with agricultural production. Under CIG, Environmental Quality Incentives Program funds are used to award competitive grants to non-Federal governmental or non-governmental organizations, Tribes, or individuals. CIG enables NRCS to work with other public and private entities to accelerate technology transfer and adoption of promising technologies and approaches to address some of the Nation's most pressing natural resource concerns. NRCSNHQ0801 (GG 12/26/07) 4-4 Emerging Markets Program (USDA)The Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) announces the availability of funding for the Emerging Markets Program (EMP) for fiscal year (FY) 2008. The EMP assists U.S. entities in developing, maintaining, or expanding exports of U.S. agricultural commodities and products by funding technical assistance activities that promote U.S. products in emerging foreign markets. The Program is intended primarily to support export market development efforts of the private sector, but program resources may also be used to assist public organizations. (FR 1/24/08) 4-5 Food Science, Flavor and Nutrition (NineSigma)The NineSigma Request for Proposal (RFP) process is a valuable method to connect with industrial partners whose interests align with yours. RFP# 50633-1) Chocolate Flavor without Guilt or Calories. Client 1 invites proposals for non fat flavor carrying bio-materials that liquefy in the mouth. RFP# 50632-1) Chewing Gum Sweetness that Lasts. Client 2 invites proposals for extending the duration of sweet taste in chewing gum. RFP# 50631-1) Cocoa Bitterness Reduction. Client 3 invites proposals for new technologies that reduce the bitter taste of Cocoa powder in foods/drinks. 50633-T, 50632-T, 50631-T EDUCATION4-6 Innovation through Institutional Integration (NSF)Innovation through Institutional Integration projects enable institutions to think and act strategically about the creative integration of NSF-funded awards, with particular emphasis on programs managed through programs in the Directorate for Education and Human Resources (EHR). For FY 2008 proposals are being solicited in six EHR programs that advance I 3 goals: CREST, ITEST, MSP, Noyce, RDE, and TCUP. The PI must be the university provost or equivalent and, given the focus on institutional integration, an institution may submit only one proposal to the I 3 competition in only one program.
4-7 Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST)(NSF)This program responds to current concerns and projections about shortages of STEM professionals and information technology workers in the United States and seeks solutions to help ensure the breadth and depth of the STEM workforce. ITEST supports the development, implementation, testing and scale-up of models, as well as research studies to address these questions and to find solutions. This ITEST announcement extends the previous ITEST announcements by placing greater emphasis on capturing and establishing a reliable knowledge base about the dispositions toward and knowledge about STEM workforce skills among U.S. students. Three types of projects are invited. 1) Strategies projects will include design, implementation, and evaluation of models for classroom, after-school, summer, virtual, and/or year-round learning experiences for students and/or teachers. 2) Scale-up projects would implement and test models about preparing students for information technology or the STEM workforce in a large-scale setting such as a state or national level based on evidence of demonstrated success. 3) Studies projects are research projects to enrich understanding of issues related to enlarging STEM workforce, including efficacy to engage students in the STEM areas, development of instruments to reliably and validly assess engagement, persistence, and other relevant constructs, or studies to identify predictors of student inclination to pursue STEM career trajectories. Innovation through Institutional Integration (I 3 ) can be used with this program. NSF 08-526 (GG 12/26/07) Deadline: Letters of Intent ITEST 2/15/2008; Proposals 4/11/2008 4-8 Research in Disabilities Education (RDE) (NSF)The RDE program seeks to broaden the participation and achievement of people with disabilities in all fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and associated professional careers. The three RDE program tracks are: Regional Alliances for Persons with Disabilities in STEM Education (RDE-RAD); Focused Research Initiatives (RDE-FRI); and Demonstration, Enrichment, and Information Dissemination projects (RDE-DEI). I 3 projects (see above) can be used with this program. NSF 08-527 (GG 12/26/07) 4-9 Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program (NSF)The Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship program seeks to encourage talented science, technology, engineering and mathematics majors and professionals to become K-12 mathematics and science teachers. The program provides funds to institutions of higher education to support scholarships, stipends, and programs for students who commit to teaching in high-need K-12 school districts. I 3 projects (see above) can be used with this program. NSF 08-532 4-10 Math and Science Partnership (MSP) (NSF)The Math and Science Partnership (MSP) program is a major research and development effort that supports innovative partnerships to improve K-12 student achievement in mathematics and science. In this solicitation NSF seeks to support six types of awards: 1) Targeted Partnerships that focus on studying and addressing issues within a specific grade range or at a critical juncture in education, and/or within a specific disciplinary focus in mathematics or the sciences; 2) Institute Partnerships--Teacher Institutes for the 21st Century designed to meet national needs for teacher leaders/master teachers who have deep knowledge of disciplinary content and are school- or district-based intellectual leaders in mathematics and science; 3) MSP-Start Partnerships for awardees new to the MSP program; 4) Phase II Partnerships for prior MSP Partnership awardees; 5) Research, Evaluation and Technical Assistance (RETA) projects to directly support the work of the Partnerships, especially by developing tools to assess teachers'growth in the knowledge of mathematics or the sciences. I 3 (see above) can be used with this program. Except for RETA awards, an organization is limited to one application as lead institution for any of the Partnership categories. NSF 08-525 Deadline: Internal 2/10/2008; Letters of Intent 2/18/2008; Proposals 3/25/2008 HEALTH & LIFE SCIENCES4-11 Non-Coding RNAs and Other Post-transcriptional Regulatory Mechanisms in Neuroplasticity and Addiction (R01) (NIH)(CIHR)The purpose of this FOA is to stimulate research on non-coding RNAs and other post-transcriptional regulatory mechanisms as they pertain to addictive processes. Areas of research under this RFA would broadly include identification and functional characterization of ncRNAs and post-transcriptional regulators involved in neuronal development, neuronal function, disease etiology, and disease treatment. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will utilize the R01 grant mechanism and runs in parallel with a FOA of identical scientific scope, RFA-DA-08-017, that solicits applications under the R03 grant mechanism. RFA-DA-08-016 (NIHG 12/21/07) Deadline: Letters of Intent 2/13/2008; Applications 3/13/2008 SOCIAL SCIENCES4-12 Rural Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault and Stalking Assistance Program (DOJ)The primary purpose of the Rural Program is to enhance the safety of the child, youth and adult victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking by supporting projects uniquely designed to address and prevent these crimes in rural jurisdictions. The Rural Program challenges victim advocates, law enforcement officers, pre-trial service personnel, prosecutors, judges and other court personnel, probation and parole officers, and faith- and/or community-based leaders to collaborate to overcome the problem of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking and to ensure that victim safety is paramount in providing services to victims and their children. OVW-2008-1771 (GG 1/24/08) Deadline: Letters of Intent 2/4/2008; Applications 2/26/2008 4-13 Research and Evaluation on Justice System Responses to Violence Against Women (DOJ)"The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is the research, development, and evaluation agency of the U.S. Department of Justice and a component of the Office of Justice Programs (OJP). NIJ seeks applications to gain research knowledge to increase women's safety and improve the justice system and related responses to intimate partner violence, sexual assault, stalking, and teen dating violence perpetrated against women. Applications proposing foundational and developmental research may be submitted, although the primary goal of the program is to support research on the effectiveness of strategies and interventions that will result in general and useful information for policy and practice. 2008-NIJ-1739 (GG 12/20/07) 4-14 J-Lab: The Institute for Interactive Journalism Community News (Knight)J-Lab: The Institute for Interactive Journalism invites U.S. nonprofit groups and education organizations to apply for funding to launch community news ventures in 2008 and to share best practices and lessons learned from their efforts. New Voices is funded by the John S. and James K. Knight Foundation and administered by J-Lab, a center of the University of Maryland's Merrill College of Journalism. The New Voices project will help fund the start-up of ten innovative local news initiatives next year. |
