This program element solicits proposals for investigations focused on exploring the Earth's extreme environments in order to develop a sound technical and scientific basis to conduct astrobiological research on other solar system bodies. The ASTEP program is a science-driven exploration program that is expected to result in new science and operational/technological capabilities to enable the next generation of planetary exploration. A unique feature that is central to the ASTEP program is the use of terrestrial (Earth based; not necessarily nonaquatic) field campaigns to further science and technology and NASA's exploration capabilities. The Kansas NASA EPSCoR Program (KNEP) is requesting proposals for a Cooperative Agreement Notice (CAN), announced by NASA on December 17, 2007. The CAN resembles past NASA EPSCoR opportunities, with $250,000 in funding per year for three years. America's Historical and Cultural Organizations grants support traveling or long-term museum exhibitions, library-based projects, interpretation of historic places or areas, interpretive Web sites, or other project formats that creatively engage audiences in exploring humanities ideas and questions. Planning grants can be used to plan, refine, and develop the content and interpretive approach of a project. Applicants should have already conducted preliminary consultation with scholars to help shape the humanities content of the projects and with other programming advisers appropriate to the project's format. The Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program has released $10 million in funding opportunities in Concept Awards. The Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP) Concept Award supports the exploration of a highly innovative new concept. Presentation of preliminary data is not allowed. However, a rationale for the work must be provided. Proposals must describe how the new concept could create an entirely new avenue for investigation and how it is relevant to breast cancer.
