Currently posted Internal Deadlines: AGRICULTURE22-1 Swine Health and Pork Safety (NPB)The National Pork Board has issued a request for proposals dealing with Swine Health--PCVAD and with Pork Safety--Pre-Harvest. The research priorities for Porcine Circovirus Associated Disease (PCVAD) should address Immunology, Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, Diagnostics, and Prevention and Treatment. Pre-harvest food safety research on pathogens should include the areas of epidemiology, pathogenesis, prevalence, on-farm risk factor management, monitoring and measurement, and/or intervention or control strategies. Salmonella research is the top priority for the industry.
22-2 Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy (KDHE)The state Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy (WRAPS) Working group has issued a request for project applications for FY 2008. WRAPS is a planning and management framework that engages stakeholders in a process to: Identify watershed restoration and protection needs; Establish watershed management goals; Create a cost effective action plan to achieve goals; and Implement the action plan.The WRAPS program includes four phases: Development, Assessment, Planning and Implementation. Organizations working on the same watersheds need to work in a collaborative manner and develop a unified plan of work. ARTS & HUMANITIES22-3 American Masterpieces: Chamber Music (NEA)The American Masterpieces: Three Centuries of Artistic Genius is a major initiative to acquaint Americans with the best of their cultural and artistic legacy. Through American Masterpieces, the National Endowment for the Arts will sponsor performances, exhibitions, tours, and educational programs across all art forms that will reach large and small communities in all 50 states. This component of American Masterpieces will celebrate the extraordinary and rich evolution of chamber music in the United States. Grants are available for chamber music performances in conjunction with residencies that will highlight repertoire by American composers and enable ensembles to engage with communities in a variety of settings. 2008NEA01AMCM (GG 6/1/07) 22-4 Residence for Writers, Visual Artists, and Music Composers (KNHCA)The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska City, Nebraska, offers two to eight-week residencies year-round for writers, visual artists, and music composers. The program provides housing, studio space, and a $100/week stipend. ENGINEERING, MATHEMATICS & PHYSICAL SCIENCES22-5 Nuclear Regulatory Commission Scholarships and Fellowships (NRC)The Nuclear Regulatory Commission Scholarship and Fellowship program allows students to pursue an education in science, engineering or other fields of study that the NRC determines as critical skill areas related to its regulatory mission. Fields of study include: civil engineering (construction); electrical engineering; fire protection engineering; fracture mechanics; geochemistry; health physics; hydrology; materials engineering; nuclear engineering; telecommunications security; and statistics. 22-6 Region 7 Indoor Air Quality Projects (EPA)In the last several years, a growing body of scientific evidence shows that air within buildings can be more seriously polluted than outdoor air. People spend as much as 90% of their time indoors. Thus, for many people the risks to health may be greater due to exposure to air pollution indoors than outdoors. EPA Region 7 awards funds annually under the Clean Air Act to be used to conduct and promote the coordination and acceleration of research, investigations, experiments, demonstrations, surveys, and studies relating to the causes, effects (including health and welfare effects), extent, reduction, prevention and control of air pollution. EPA-R7ARTD-07-002 (GG 5/30/07) 22-7 Physics Frontiers Centers (PFC) (NSF)The Physics Frontiers Centers (PFC) program supports university-based centers and institutes where the collective efforts of a larger group of individuals can enable transformational advances in the most promising research areas. The program is designed to foster major breakthroughs at the intellectual frontiers of physics by providing needed resources such as combinations of talents, skills, disciplines, and/or specialized infrastructure, not usually available to individual investigators or small groups, in an environment in which the collective efforts of the larger group can be shown to be seminal to promoting significant progress in the science and the education of students. Activities supported through the program are in all sub-fields of physics within the purview of the Division of Physics: atomic, molecular, optical, plasma, elementary particle, nuclear, astrogravitational, and biological physics. Interdisciplinary projects at the interface between these physics areas and other disciplines and physics sub-fields, e.g. biology, quantum information science, mathematical physics, condensed matter physics, and emerging areas of physics are also included. No more than two preliminary proposals may be submitted by any one institution. For proposals competing for FY 2008 (which begins October 1, 2007) funds, the target date for unsolicited proposals submitted to most programs is September 26, 2007 (except as noted below). Submission to the Physics Frontiers Centers program is in response to the solicitation only. For FY 2008, the Division will entertain submissions in the following areas: Atomic Molecular and Optical Physics, Biological Physics (Target Date is July 31 2007), Education and Interdisciplinary Research, Elementary and Particle Physics, Gravitational Physics and LIGO, NSF/DOE Partnership in Basic Plasma Science and Engineering (Target Date is December 12, 2007), Nuclear Physics, Particle and Nuclear Astrophysics (Including R&D for Underground Laboratory), Physics at the Information Frontier (Target Date is October 24, 2007), Physics Frontiers Centers (Special Solicitation Deadline) and Theoretical Physics. NSF 07-036 22-9 Cottrell Scholars Awards (RC)The Research Corporation's Cottrell Scholar Awards are designed for institutions and faculty members who wish to excel at both teaching and research. Awards are made to U.S. and Canadian universities to further the teaching and research of faculty members in Ph.D.-granting astronomy, chemistry, and physics departments. Applicants must be in the third full calendar year of their first tenure-track position. HEALTH & LIFE SCIENCE22-10 Basic Research on Human Embryonic Stem Cells (P01) (NIH)The goal of the Program Project for Basic Research on Human Embryonic Stem Cells (P01) grants is to support research on the basic biology of human embryonic stem cells (hESC) and to promote the use of hESC as a model system to address significant questions in the basic biomedical sciences. The P01 should include a minimum of three R01-like subprojects to study the unique characteristics of hESC and/or to use hESC as a model system to address a basic biological questions. RFA-GM-08-003 (NIHG 6/1/07) Deadline: Letters of Intent 9/23/2007; Applications 10/23/2007 22-11 Cancer Research (Pardee)The Elsa U. Pardee Foundation provides support for research directed towards the detection, treatment, and cure of cancer. Priority is given to researchers at non-profit institutions who are new to the field of cancer research, or to established research investigators examining new approaches to cancer cure. Grants are typically one year in duration. INTERNATIONAL/MULTICULTURAL22-12 Summer Institute Program to Increase Diversity in Health-Related Research (SIPIS) (R25) (NIH)This funding opportunity announcement solicits grant applications from applicant organizations that propose to conduct summer institute programs to enable faculty and scientists from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups and faculty and scientists with disabilities to further develop their research skills and knowledge, enhancing their career development as faculty members or scientists. This funding opportunity invites senior faculty, established researchers, and experienced mentors to apply to be Program Directors and Program Administrators for Summer Institute Program for Increasing Diversity awards in order to mentor promising candidates. RFA-HL-07-012 (NIHG 5/25/2007) Deadline: Letters of Intent 9/28/2007; Applications 10/29/2007 SOCIAL SCIENCES22-13 National Poverty Research Center (HHS)The U.S. continues to experience social changes relating to the economy, demographics, and the social and behavioral functioning of individuals and families and the well-being of children. The manner by which government and others react to or precipitates these changes also is in a state of evolution. A key way that these issues are examined by Health & Human Services is by studying the causes and consequences of poverty and inequality as well as policy and program responses to ameliorate poverty and inequality and their impacts on Americans. In order to further these efforts and inform the public, HHS is soliciting applications from university-based institutions for a cooperative agreement. The Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) expects to fund the National Poverty Research Center for a period of three (3) years. HS-07-028 (GG 5/30/07) 22-14 Senior Fellowships (USIP)The Jennings Randolph Program for International Peace awards Senior Fellowships to enable outstanding scholars, policy makers, journalists, and other professionals from around the world to conduct research at the U.S. Institute of Peace on important issues concerning international conflict and peace. Priority is given to proposals that promise to make a timely contribution to the understanding and resolution of ongoing and emerging international conflicts. USIP is especially interested in proposals addressing problems of the Muslim world, post-war reconstruction and peacebuilding and stability operations in Iraq and elsewhere, and responses to terrorism and political violence. However, proposals in all fields are welcome.
22-15 Canadian Studies Research (Canada)The Canadian Studies Research Grant Program promotes research in the social sciences and humanities that contributes to a better knowledge and understanding of Canada, its relationship with the United States, and its international affairs. The grant will assist individual scholars, or a team of scholars, in writing publishable manuscripts. |
