New funding opportunities are available from the Department of Defense Autism Spectrum Disorder Research Program. Some of the awards are specifically designed for a broad spectrum of investigators in the fields of epidemiology, immunology, education, nutrition, psychology, psychiatry, etc., to focus their research on autism spectrum disorders. Concept Awards are for investigators at all academic levels (or equivalent)and support the exploration of an initial idea of novel observation that could give rise to a testable hypothesis; and emphasize innovation and impact on the field of autism spectrum disorder research. Idea Development Awards are for independent investigators at or above the level of Assistant Professor (or equivalent); may have up to three PIs collaborating on a single proposal; and support innovative research that advances the understanding of autism spectrum disorder and leads to improved treatment outcomes. The purpose of the Higher Education Multicultural Scholars Program is to provide scholarships to support recruiting, retaining, mentoring, and training high quality multicultural scholars, resulting in either baccalaureate degrees within the food and agricultural sciences disciplines or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. The scholarships are intended to encourage outstanding students from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the food and agricultural sciences, to pursue and complete baccalaureate degrees in food and agricultural sciences, or achieving a DVM.
A critical area of focus for DHS is the development and deployment of technologies to protect the nation's cyber infrastructure, including the Internet and other critical infrastructures that depend on computer systems for their mission. The goals of the DHS Cyber Security Research and Development Center (CSRDC) program are: 1) to perform research and development (R&D) aimed at improving the security of existing deployed technologies, and to ensure the security of new emerging systems; 2) to develop new and enhanced technologies for the detection of, prevention of, and response to cyber attacks on the nation's critical information infrastructure; and 3) to assist the transfer of these technologies into the national infrastructure as a matter of urgency. 20-4 DHS Homeland Security Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (HS-STEM) Career Development Grants (DHS)
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) invited proposals from colleges and universities with established homeland security-related science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (HS-STEM) curricula to establish scientific career development awards to students in priority HS-STEM programs of study. DHS intends to establish an HS-STEM Career Development grants program to enable colleges and universities to award scholarships and fellowships to qualified undergraduate and graduate students in HS-STEM disciplines who intend to pursue homeland security professional and scientific careers. Research areas eligible for DHS support for students studying in those areas are: 1) Explosives Detection, Mitigation and Response; 2) Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences; 3) Human Factors; 4) Chemical and Biological Threats; 5) Border Security and Immigration Studies; 6) Maritime, Coastal and Port Security; 7) Infrastructure Protection and Geophysical Applications to Natural Disasters; 8) Emergency Preparedness and Response; 9) Communications, Operations and Interoperability; 10) Advanced Data Analysis and Visualization; and 11) HS-STEM Introductory and Survey Courses preparatory to one of the above areas of study. Institutions may submit more than one application from different departments.
20-5 Cyberinfrastructure Training, Education, Advancement, and Mentoring for Our 21st Century Workforce (CI-TEAM) (NSF)
The CI-TEAM program supports projects that position the national science and engineering community to engage in integrated research and education activities promoting, leveraging and utilizing cyberinfrastructure systems, tools and services. CI-TEAM awards will: Prepare current and future generations of scientists, engineers, and educators to design and develop as well as adopt and deploy, cyber-based tools and environments for research and learning, both formal and informal; Expand and enhance participation in cyberinfrastructure science and engineering activities of diverse groups of people and organizations, with particular emphasis on the inclusion of traditionally underrepresented individuals, institutions, and communities as both creators and users of cyberinfrastructure. This solicitation seeks two types of project proposals. One type of proposal, the Demonstration Project, is exploratory in nature and may be somewhat limited in scope and scale. The other project type, the Implementation Project, is generally larger in scope or scale and draws on prior experience with the activities or the teams proposed. An organization may submit only one proposal (either a CI-TEAM Implementation or Demonstration Project) as the lead organization in response to this solicitation. NSF 07-564
This program supports interdisciplinary materials research and education while addressing fundamental problems in science and engineering. MRSECs require outstanding research quality and intellectual breadth, provide support for research infrastructure and flexibility in responding to new opportunities, and strongly, emphasize the integration of research and education. These centers foster active collaboration between universities and other sectors, including industry, and they constitute a national network of university-based centers in materials research. MRSECs address problems of a scope of complexity requiring the advantages of scale and interdisciplinary interaction provided by a center. A MRSEC may be located at a single institution, or may involve two or more institutions in partnership. Only two preliminary proposals may be submitted by any one organization as the lead organization. Full proposals may be submitted by invitation only. This amendment to ROSES-07 establishes a new program element in AppendixC.24 entitled "Near Earth Object (NEO) Observations." This new program element solicits proposals that promise a sustained, productive search for NEOs and/or obtain follow-up observations of sufficient astrometric precision to allow the accurate prediction of the orbits of discovered objects. The goal of the CreativeIT Program is to fund research that focuses on creativity to produce simultaneous advances in both computer science and creative cognition, creativity support tools, engineering design or science. The CreativeIT Program solicits proposals for projects that explore the synergies of cross disciplinary research in creativity and computer science and information technology. Information technology is playing an increasing role in extending the capability of human creative thinking and problem solving. The study of creativity as a way to advance computer science and information technology can lead to new models of creative computational processes, innovative approaches to education that encourage creativity, innovative modes of research that include creative professionals, and new technology to support human creativity. The Policy-Oriented One-Year rural Health Research Grant Program provides grants to conduct and disseminate policy-relevant research on issues of national significance in the area of rural Health services. Grant recipients examine critical issues facing rural communities in their quest to secure adequate affordable, high quality health services in areas of rural health where such research is limited. These grants are designed to provide support both for entities established in the rural health services research field as well as those entering this field. The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is now accepting applications for the 2007 Jeannik M. Littlefield - AACR Grants in Metastatic Colon Cancer Research. These grants will provide support for innovative cancer research projects designed to accelerate the discovery and development of new agents to treat metastatic colon cancer and/or for pre-clinical research with direct therapeutic intent.
