The Directorate for Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE) at the National Science Foundation aims to foster the development of the knowledge, theories, data, tools and human capital needed to cultivate a new Science of Science and Innovation Policy (SciSIP). SciSIP will underwrite fundamental research that creates new explanatory models and analytic tools designed to inform the nation's public and private sectors about the processes through which investments in science and engineering (S&E) research are transformed into social and economic outcomes. SciSIP's goals are to understand the contexts, structures and processes of S&E research, to evaluate reliably the tangible and intangible returns from investments in research and development (R&D), and to predict the likely returns from future R&D investments within tolerable margins of error and with attention to the full spectrum of potential consequences. The United Soybean Board (USB) Domestic Marketing Committee invites proposals to study the Impact of Processing on Soybean Meal Quality and Economics. This project was identified for the Supply and Animal Utilization target areas. Quality of soybean meal can be either enhanced or degraded through processing, which in turn affects the value of the meal and the bean at the farm gate. In order to measure the potential of improving traits that affect soybean meal quality, this study is commissioned to establish the ratio of value assessment that should be assigned from trait improvements versus processing technique. This project should focus on monogastric diets, primarily chicken, hogs, and turkeys. Projects focusing on ruminant diet will not be considered.
The purpose of CIG is to stimulate the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies while leveraging Federal investment in environmental enhancement and protection, in conjunction with agricultural production. CIG projects are expected to lead to the transfer of conservation technologies, management systems, and innovative approaches (such as market-based systems) into NRCS technical manuals or guides, or to the private sector. CIG does not fund research projects. Instead, it is a vehicle to stimulate the development and adoption of conservation approaches to technologies that have been studied sufficiently to indicate a likelihood of success and that are candidates for eventual technology transfer. The purpose of the ECEPD program is to enhance the school readiness of young children, particularly disadvantaged young children, and to prevent them from encountering difficulties once they enter school, by improving the knowledge and skills of early childhood educators who work in communities that have high concentrations of children living in poverty. The Course, Curriculum, and Laboratory Improvement (CCLI) program seeks to improve the quality of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education for all undergraduate students. The program supports efforts to create new learning materials and teaching strategies, develop faculty expertise, implement educational innovations, assess learning and evaluate innovations, and conduct research on STEM teaching and learning. The program supports three types of projects representing three different phases of development, ranging from small, exploratory investigations to large, comprehensive projects. This is a recurring requirement to establish/maintain a research or developmental capability to be provided by educational institutions in accordance with Subpart 6.302-3 of the Federal Acquisition Regulations. The United Methodist Health Ministry Fund announces a special allocation of $500,000 for innovation funding grants in 2007. The funding is earmarked specifically to support practical, promising ideas to improve oral health, access to health care, and physical activity and nutrition.
The purpose of this funding opportunity is to evaluate promising but unproven general purpose enabling technologies for the routine detection by microscopy of single molecules and single molecular events inside cells. Applications are invited for: 1) feasibility studies for new classes of high signal output molecular imaging probes; 2) evaluation of general purpose methods for the delivery and specific targeting of externally administered imaging probes without disturbing cellular physiology; and 3) basic research on underlying fundamental photophysical phenomena relevant to improving the spectral properties of fluorescent probes. This Annual Program Statement (APS), which includes the Good Governance in Education Program, solicits applications from prospective partners to promote democracy and improve governance by complementing the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)'s existing activities. Currently, USAID's democracy and governance program supports the Government of Egypt in improving the effectiveness and transparency of commercial/civil courts; improving the mediation capacity and public awareness of family courts; developing the public defense system associated with criminal courts; increasing the professional capacity of Egyptian journalists and the economic performance of the print and broadcast sectors; and supporting democratic local government and decentralization. USAID is also working with Egyptian and international civil society organizations in promoting credible elections processes, promoting increased citizen participation in governance and strengthening civil society organizations. USAID is contemplating future efforts to protect human rights, promote public accountability and improve the effectiveness of the administration courts.
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation supports transatlantic research cooperation among German, American and/or Canadian scholars in the humanities, social sciences, economics, and law by means of the TransCoop Programme. Prerequisite is that the amount granted by TransCoop is matched by funds from US and/or Canadian sources. Funds can be used to finance short-term research visits, special conferences and work-shops, material and equipment, printing costs, and research assistance.
