GENERAL41-1 Partnership for Clean Indoor Air Outreach, Communication and Education (EPA)EPA seeks applications from eligible entities to implement outreach, communication and education activities to support the Partnership for Clean Indoor Air in achieving its mission to improve health, livelihood, and quality of life by reducing exposure to indoor air pollution from household energy use in developing countries. EPA-OAR-IED-05-20 (FG 10/26/05) AGRICULTURE41-2 Livelihoods Initiative in Ethiopia (USAID)USAID/DCHA/OFDA's mandate is to save lives, alleviate human suffering, and reduce the economic impact of disasters. In order to achieve this goal, USAID/DCHA/OFDA's strategy in Ethiopia in FY-2006 will be to meet the critical needs of populations affected by the ongoing complex food insecurity crisis and increase household level resilience to climatic, economic, and health shocks resulting in humanitarian crises. The broad goals of this APS are to: Provide emergency, life-saving assistance to those populations most at-risk from food insecurity; Increase the capacity of households and communities to cope with recurrent drought, economic, and health shocks to reduce the need for large emergency interventions in the future; Prepare communities to transition to longer-term development initiatives that will further reduce vulnerability to food insecurity by addressing its root causes; and Assist affected populations in the recovery process to promote self-sufficiency and minimize dependence on external assistance. APS-06-001 (FG 10/26/05) 41-3 Bring Back the Natives Aquatic Species Program (NFWF)The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, in cooperation with its partner agencies, requests pre-proposals from nonprofit organizations; universities; Native American tribes; and local, state, and federal agencies interested in restoring native populations of sensitive or listed aquatic species for its Bring Back the Natives (BBN) program. The initiative funds on-the-ground efforts to restore native aquatic species to their historic range. Projects should involve partnerships between communities, agencies, private landowners, and organizations that seek to rehabilitate streamside and watershed habitats, and should focus on habitat needs of species such as fish, invertebrates, and amphibians that originally inhabited waterways across the United States. ARTS & HUMANITIES41-4 Puffin Foundation 2006 Artist Grant Awards (Puffin)The Puffin Foundation in Teaneck, New Jersey, seeks to open the doors of artistic expression by providing grants to artists and art organizations often excluded from mainstream opportunities. The foundation makes grants that encourage emerging artists in the fields of art, music, theater, dance, photography, and literature whose works, due to their genre and/or social philosophy, might have difficulty being aired. The foundation does not have the means, however, to fund large film/documentary proposals, grants for travel, continuing education, or the writing or publishing of books. EDUCATION41-5 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Talent Expansion Program (STEP) (NSF)The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Talent Expansion Program (STEP) seeks to increase the number of students (U.S. citizens or permanent residents) receiving associate or baccalaureate degrees in established or emerging fields within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics or emerging fields within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Assessment grants provide funding for a grant recipient to inventory, characterize, assess and conduct cleanup and redevelopment planning and community involvement related to Brownfield sites. Applicants may apply for both Community-Wide and Site-Specific assessment. However, an applicant is limited to submitting only ONE hazardous substance assessment grant proposal and ONE petroleum assessment proposal. EPA-OSWER-OBCR-06-01 (FG 10/20/05) 41-7 Crime Scene Tools, Techniques, and Technologies (DOJ)The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) seeks concept papers for research and development to enhance forensic crime scene examinations, specifically: 1) Small, rugged, less costly, less labor intensive, and nondestructive analytical tools and technologies for onsite presumptive and/or confirmatory analysis of forensic evidence at a crime scene; 2) Sample location, identification, capture, and stabilization technology suitable for recovering trace particulate, liquid, chemical, and biological evidence at a crime scene; 3) Improving basic and fundamental understanding of chemical and biological signatures found at crime scenes. Forensic crime evidence typically consist of, but is not limited to: latent prints, blood splatter, blood, semen, hairs, fibers, gun shot residue, explosive residue, and fire debris. 2006-NIJ-1140 (FG 10/26/05) 41-8 Energy Research Annual Notice (DOE)The Energy Department has issued its annual omnibus investigator-initiated grant announcement, which encourages investigators from multiple disciplines to submit applications for work across the agencies programmatic interest areas and outside the limitations of specific target solicitations.
