The program seeks to broaden the participation of girls and women in all fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education by supporting research, dissemination of research, and extension services in education that will lead to a larger and more diverse domestic science and engineering workforce. The National Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council serves to advise the Secretary of Agriculture on the status of the nation's urban and community forests. The Council seeks to establish sustainable urban and community forests by encouraging communities of all sizes to manage and protect their natural resources for this and future generations. American Masterpieces: Three Centuries of Artistic Genius is a major initiative to acquaint Americans with the best of their cultural and artistic legacy. This component of American Masterpieces will celebrate the collaborative genius, evolution, diversity and cultural contribution of the American musical theater. Through this component, musical theater work of the highest quality--that otherwise would not be available--will be experienced by Americans in communities across the nation. Grants will be awarded in two areas for: Home based or touring performances of masterworks. Up to ten organizations will be selected to present musical theater work in their home locations or touring venues; and the tour of masterwork to college and university presenters. The Instructional Materials Development (IMD) program includes four components: Learning Progressions - supports the creation of instructional frameworks centered on learning progressions in science and technology education and the development of associated teacher resources and models for professional development; Instructional Materials for Students -- supports the creation and substantial revision of comprehensive curricula and supplemental instructional materials that are research-based, enhance classroom instruction preK-12, and reflect standards for science, mathematical and technology education developed by national professional organizations; Assessment -- supports the creation of tools for assessing student learning that are tied to nationally developed standards and reflect the most current thinking on how students learn mathematics and science. This initiative is to support projects that will enhance how human temporal bone (HTB) specimens are used for modern auditory and vestibular research. Applications must delineate important research questions requiring human temporal bone specimens, provide protocols for tissue processing that are robust within the constraints of sample acquisition and varying user needs, and describe mechanisms for access to and sharing of HTB materials including archived and new specimens. Applications must incorporate techniques of modern molecular biology, imaging technology and data management.
