The Instrument Development for Biological Research (IDBR) Program supports the development of novel or substantially improved instrumentation likely to have a significant impact on the study of biological systems at any level. The development of new, or substantial improvement of existing, software for the operation of instruments, analysis of data, or the analysis of images is also supported where these have the effect of improving instrument performance. As part of its We the People initiative, NEH seeks proposals for a series of one-week residence-based workshops for K-12 educators that use historic sites to address central themes and issues in American history, government, literature, art history, or other related subjects in the humanities. The goals of the workshops are to: provide teachers with training and experience in the use and interpretation of historical sites and the material resources and archival evidence of American history and culture; increase knowledge and appreciation of places significant to American history and culture; and encourage historical sites to develop greater capacity and scale for professional development programs.
The American Antiquarian Society in Worcester, Massachusetts, collects, preserves, and makes available for study the printed record of what is now the United States of America from first European settlement through the year 1876. AAS is calling for applications for visiting fellowships for historical research by creative and performing artists, writers, film makers, journalists, and other persons whose goals are to produce imaginative, non-formulaic works dealing with pre-twentieth-century American history. The long-range goal of the EMSW21 program is to increase the number of well-prepared U.S. citizens, nationals, and permanent residents who pursue careers in the mathematical sciences and in other NSF-supported disciplines. The rational development of adjuvants and immunotherapeutics to eukaryotic diseases will require a basic understanding of the underlying novel innate immune responses to these complex pathogens. Continued progress in materials research is increasingly dependent upon collaborative efforts among several different disciplines, as well as closer coordination among funding agencies and effective partnerships involving universities, industry, and national laboratories. In addition, because of the growing interdependence of the world's economies, partnerships are important not only at the national level but from an international point of view as well. The National Science Foundation is working jointly with counterpart national, regional and multinational funding organizations worldwide to enhance opportunities for collaborative activities in materials research between US investigators and their colleagues abroad. Proposals submitted to NSF in response to this solicitation must have clear relevance to fundamental materials, phenomena, synthesis, characterization and/or properties. NSF will accept proposals from US universities and colleges addressing collaborations between researchers from the US and participating countries or regions. Concurrently, investigators at non-US research institutions should submit to the counterpart funding organization in their country or region a request for support of their side of the collaboration. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as part of its Science to Achieve Results (STAR) program, is offering Graduate Fellowships for master's and doctoral level students in environmental fields of study. The deadline for receipt of pre-applications is October 18, 2005. Subject to availability of funding, the Agency plans to award approximately 100 new fellowships by July 21, 2006.
