The Innovation and Organizational Change (IOC) program seeks to create and apply fundamental new knowledge with the aim of improving the effectiveness of the design, administration, and management of organizations, including industrial, educational, service, and government, nonprofit and voluntary organizations. Additionally, the program seeks a better understanding of how teamwork, coordination, and institutional arrangements contribute to innovation. The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the National Sciences Foundation. REU projects involve students in meaningful ways in ongoing research programs or in research projects specially designed for the purpose. This solicitation features two mechanisms for support of student research: REU Supplements and REU Sites. Supplements may be included in proposals for new or renewal NSF grants or as supplements to ongoing NSF-funded projects. REU Sites are based on independent proposals to initiate and conduct undergraduate research participation projects for a number of students. REU Sites projects may be based in a single discipline or academic department or be based on interdisciplinary or multi-department research opportunities with a strong intellectual focus. The Animal Health and Disease Steering Committee is issuing a call for Animal Health Sec. 1433 Research Proposals. During Federal Fiscal Year 2005, beginning October 1, KSRE expects to receive $106,000 in Animal Health Sec. 1433 funding. At least $75,000 of that sum will be available to support approximately two new projects. The size of these new awards will be larger than in the past, ranging from $25,000 to $40,000 depending on the project's specific needs. An additional $58,000 is available for purchase of new research equipment to be used in connection with Animal Health 1433 projects. Requests for equipment funds must be submitted as part of an application for a new project. Preference will be shown to proposals from non-tenured, tenure-track faculty and interdisciplinary research teams. Faculty may serve as the lead Principal Investigator (PI) on only one proposal, but may be a co-PI on other proposals.
The Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES) and the Natural Resources Conservation Services are seeking applications to evaluate the effects of watershed conservation practices, with a focus on understanding how the suite of conservation practices, the timing of these activities, and the spatial distribution of these practices throughout a watershed influence their effectiveness for achieving locally defined water quality goals. The Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC), operating through the Risk Management Agency (RMA), announces the availability of funding for Commodity Partnerships for Risk Management Education (the Commodity Partnerships program). The purpose of this partnership agreement program is to deliver training and information in the management of production, marketing, and financial risk, to U.S. agricultural producers. The Environmental Protection Agency seeks proposals for projects that promote the coordination and acceleration of research, investigations, experiments, training, demonstrations, surveys and studies related to the causes, effects, extent, prevention reduction and elimination of water pollution. Projects must be partially or fully located within region 7 (Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri). EPA will give priority to projects that address three priority areas: developing a comprehensive monitoring and assessment program; improving the effectiveness of compensatory mitigation; and refining the protection of vulnerable wetlands and aquatic resources. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Office of Space Science will release Announcement of Opportunity (A0) for the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) Measurement Investigations on or about June 18, 2004. The LRO will be the first mission in NASA's Robotic Lunar Exploration Program and is planned for launch in October 2008. The LRO is intended to provide those measurements necessary and sufficient to characterize future robotic and human lunar landing sites and to identify potential lunar resources, with emphasis on applied science/engineering assessments. The intent of this solicitation is to invite proposals seeking to establish a DLESE Project Office. The project office will be responsible for leading community discussions surrounding the growth of the DLESE digital collection, for coordinating the development of the array of services that will support the creation of exemplary resources and their use in enhancing geoscience education, and for leading the community-building activities of the core service groups. The purpose of this program announcement is to stimulate research in an important and emerging area of developmental toxicology: the effects of in uetero exposures that cause permanent functional changes that are not overtly, grossly teratogenic yet that result in increased susceptibility to disease/dysfunction later in the life span. The Microbial Observatories activity is a continuation of MO competitions held since 1999. The long-term goal of this activity is to develop a network of sites or microbial observatories in different habitats to study and understand microbial diversity over time and across environmental gradients. Projects supported are expected to establish or participate in an established, Internet-accessible knowledge network to disseminate information resulting from these activities. In addition, educational and outreach activities such as formal or informal training in microbial biology, and activities that will broaden the participation of underrepresented groups in microbial research and education are expected. Microbial Interactions and Processes (MIP) expands the range of the MO competition to support microbial diversity research projects that need not be site-based, and that are smaller and/or shorter in duration than MO projects. The Grosvenor Grant Program of the National Geographic Society Education Foundation supports efforts to engage K-12 students and teachers in the exploration of geographic skills and perspectives leading to an appreciation of the world, its peoples, and its resources. The Health and Human Services Department seeks applications for field-initiated research on child care issues to inform policy and practice and increase the capacity to conduct such research at the federal state and local level. Priories are: child care subsidy policies; quality investments and cost-effectiveness of alternative investments in improving child care; professional development and training; school readiness; and coordination of services to maximize positive outcomes for families and children.
