The South Central Kansas Economic Development District is hosting an SBIR/STTR Proposal Preparation Workshop in Wichita, April 29-May 1. Ten federal agencies and departments offer Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer Program grants for feasibility testing of research concepts critical to the agency functions and operation. This Workshop will teach effective research proposal writing and provide opportunities to meet with SBIR program managers.
The National Science Foundation funds and manages the United States Antarctic Program and invites scientists at U.S. institutions to submit proposals to perform research in Antarctica; and to perform related research and data analysis in the United States. For field work in the Antarctic, successful candidates will be provided laboratory support and operational support in addition to award of funding through home institutions. NSF 03-551
The Course, Curriculum and Laboratory Improvement (CCLI) program seeks to improve the quality of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education for all students, based on research concerning the needs and opportunities that exist and effective ways to address them. It targets activities affecting learning environments, course content, curricula, and educational practices, with the aim of contributing to the relevant research base. The program has four tracks: 1) Educational Materials Development (CCLI-EMD); 2) National Dissemination (CCLI-ND) Projects should be designed to offer workshops, short courses, or similar activities on a national scale in single or multiple disciplines; 3) Adaptation and Implementation (CCLI-A&I) This track will be described in detail in a separate solicitation to be released in the summer of 2003. A November or December 2003 proposal deadline is anticipated; and 4) Assessment of Student Achievement in Undergraduate Education (ASA) This track will be described in detail in a separate solicitation to be released in the summer of 2003. The Foundation has as its primary mission to investigate ways in which education can be improved, around the world. The Foundation's Small Research Grants Program supports short-term research projects (one year or less) that require no more than $35,000 to complete. It offers a unique opportunity for scholars and practitioners in a broad range of institutions who are interested in educational research to obtain support for their work. The program is appropriate for modest-sized research projects, exploratory studies, specific phases of larger investigations, and projects that arise in response to unusual opportunities.
The Spencer Foundation's Major Research Grants Program supports research projects requiring more than $35,000. Research projects vary widely, ranging from medium-sized studies that can be completed within a year by an individual researcher to more extensive collaborative studies that last several years.
NSF and NASA will cooperate to fund projects that will promote the ability to design, test, implement, evolve, and certify highly dependable software-based systems. A significant feature of this solicitation is the use of a new NASA test-bed facility that will allow NSF awardees to experimentally evaluate their research products on significant real hardware/software artifacts. US Air Force Rome Laboratory, acting as the contracting agent for the Intelligence Community's Advanced Research and Development Activity (ARDA), is issuing this BAA to solicit research proposals addressing innovative solutions to cyber-defense for the Intelligence Community's (IC) information infrastructure. This BAA seeks research efforts that advance the state-of-the-art in the following two areas: 1. Advanced Information Assurance (IA) Situational Awareness; 2. Cyber Indications and Warning. For this BAA, each of the above research efforts is subdivided into general and specific research areas of interest. The Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) program supports the active involvement of K-12 teachers and community college faculty in engineering research in order to bring knowledge of engineering and technological innovation into their classrooms. This announcement features two mechanisms for support of in-service and pre-service K-12 teachers and/or community college faculty research: RET Supplements and RET Sites. RET Supplements may be included in proposals for new or renewal NSF Directorate for Engineering (ENG) grants or as supplements to ongoing NSF/ENG funded projects. NSF is supporting construction of the Extensible Terascale Facility (ETF), a scalable, distributed, heterogeneous grid computing-communication-information system. Scheduled for commissioning in the fall of 2004, the ETF will provide for the seamless integration of high end computing platforms, large archival science and engineering data resources, cutting-edge visualization facilities, and research-enabling instruments and sensors. The purpose of the Cancer Education Grant Program (CEGP) is to support the development and dissemination of innovative education approaches, methods and tools that ultimately will have an impact on reducing cancer incidence, mortality, morbidity, and improving the quality of life of cancer survivors. The CEGP invites investigator-initiated R25 grant applications that pursue a wide range of objectives from short courses, national forums, seminars, and/or hands-on workshops designed to educate scientists, health care professionals, students and the lay community; to the design, development and evaluation of new curricula of special significance to cancer in educational institutions; structured short-term didactic and research experiences designed to motivate high school, college and medical, dental and other health professional students to pursue careers in cancer research; to the development and evaluation of new educational methods and tools directed at special audiences (e.g., minorities and underserved populations); to web-based and virtual approaches to cancer education. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) invites applications for exploratory/developmental research project grants to support novel work on the molecular mechanisms and applications of antigen-specific immune tolerance, which is the selective and long-term inactivation of immune responses. The projects should involve a high degree of innovation, and have a clearly articulated potential to improve understanding of immune tolerance.
