12-1 Career Awards at the Scientific Interface (BWF)

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund announces a new award program, Career Awards at the Scientific Interface. These awards are intended to foster the early career development of researchers with backgrounds in the physical/computational sciences whose work addresses biological questions and who are dedicated to pursuing a career in academic research. Applicants are expected to draw from their training in a scientific field other than biology to propose innovative approaches to answer important questions in the biological sciences. These awards support up to two years of advanced postdoctoral training and the first three years of a faculty appointment.

    12-2 Partnerships for Innovation (NSF)

The goals of the Partnerships for Innovation Program are to: stimulate the transformation of knowledge created by the national research and education enterprise into innovations that create new wealth, build strong local, regional and national economies and improve the national well-being; broaden the participation of all types of academic institutions and all citizens in NSF activities; and create or enhance enabling infrastructure necessary to foster and sustain innovation in the long-term. This competition will support 10-15 promising partnerships among academe, government and the private sector, partnerships that will explore new approaches to support and sustain innovation. Degree-granting academic institutions of higher learning may participate in no more than two partnership proposals and may submit only one Partnership proposal as the lead institution. Please contact Jim Guikema by March 29 if you are interested in submitting a proposal. NSF 01-79
