IBC Training Modules


Why Do We Have Mandatory Training?

Procedures to complete the training modules:

  • Click to enter the individual modules below. Each module consists of training slides and a quiz. Note: You will be required to enter your K-State EID and password to access the training.
  • After completing each module, you will be asked to complete an assurance page and submit it electronically.
  • A certificate page will be displayed to confirm training module completion. You may print this for your records.
  • The URCO will log your assurance into its database to verify and document your training status.
  • Verification of completion of all applicable training modules must be received by the URCO prior to final approval of an IACUC application.

  1. Introduction to Biosafety and Laboratory Biosafety Level 1 and Biosafey Level 2

  2. Vertebrate Animal Biosafety level 1 and 2
    Take Training Module

  3. Laboratory Biosafety Level 3
    Take Training Module

  4. Vertebrate Animal Biosaftey Level 3
    Take Training Module

  5. The NIH Guidelines for Personnel Performing Research Using Recombinant DNA Molecules
    Take Training Module

  6. Guidelines for Working With Toxins of Biological Origin
    Take Training Module

  7. Biosecurity - Dual Use - Synthetic Biology Training

Training Modules (by level):

Laboratory BL-1 or BL-2: use of an infectious or recombinant DNA agent classified by the CDC and/or NIH guidelines as Biosafety Level 1 or Biosafety Level 2(no animal work)

Vertebrate Animal BL-1 or BL-2: use of an infectious or recombinant DNA agent classified by the CDC and/or NIH guidelines as Biosafety Level 1 or Biosafety Level 2, using animals

Laboratory BL-3 use of an infectious or recombinant DNA agent classified by the CDC and/or NIH guidelines as Biosafety Level 3 (no animal work)

Vertebrate Animal BL-3: use of an infectious or recombinant DNA agent classified by the CDC and/or NIH guidelines as Biosafety Level 3, using animals

Training Videos:

Introduction to VTV, Handwashing Techniques, and the Needle/Sharps Safety video are all MANDATORY. All other videos are project-specific. Participation is dictated by the PI of each project.
