Privately-Owned Animals on University Agricultural Property
The University Policy and Procedures Manual addresses the presence of privately-owned animals on university property and buildings (7840.100 Control of Animals of KSU Property). This primarily concerns the presence of dogs on campus.
This IACUC guideline supplements that policy in the specific instance where employees living or working on university agricultural property have non-university owned animals present at the work site. This situation can occur most frequently with horses, dogs, and cats at Animal Science and Industry (AS&I) Farms. Allowing privately-owned animals in the AS&I units is a departmental management decision, but several health and welfare conditions must be met from the IACUC perspective.
