research interests: Dr. Narayanan interests include morphological, biochemical and molecular changes in host cells in response to Fusobacterium necrophorum leukotoxin. He has shown that leukotoxin from F. necrophorum causes a dose-dependent apoptosis and/or necrosis of bovine peripheral leukocytes. His concentrated effort is in identifying other cells undergoing the same fate in the animal, to better understand the pathogenesis of this bacterium. Dr. Narayanan co-teaches pathology lectures and laboratories to sophomore veterinary students. He also instructs necropsy rounds to senior veterinary students. As a resident his additional duties include part time diagnostic pathology during the fall and spring semesters and full time duties during the summers.
