Political Science Certificate Requirements

Language

. Proceeding from the premise that no student can hope to function abroad unless he or she has a good command of at least one foreign language, the Certificate will require the student to pass an examination in a language of his or her choice based on the Department of State's language grading system. No credit will be given for language courses.


Course Requirements

. This is an option within the MA degree that requires a unique set of courses. In addition to the core courses required for an MA in political science, the student will be required to take additional coursework. The total number of units required for this certificate will be 42. These units will be divided up as follows:

Specialized Courses

12 units at the discretion of the student's advisor in political science who will assure cohesion to the 12 units. These courses may also include a 3 credit internship in the student's area of specialization. Comprehensive Examination

All students must pass a comprehensive examination upon completion of their course work. These exams will be conducted by the four professors on each student's committee, including at least two from political science.
