Jeffrey Pickering

Dr. Pickering is a professor and the Department Head of political science at Kansas State University. He has published articles in outlets such as the British Journal of Political Science, International Studies Quarterly, Political Research Quarterly, Journal of Peace Research, International Interactions, Journal of Political and Military Sociology, International Journal of Peace Studies, and Twentieth Century British History. He also published a book entitled Britain’s Withdrawal from East of Suez: The Politics of Retrenchment (1998) with Macmillan press in Britain and St. Martin’s press in the US. The book is an extension of his Ph.D. dissertation, which won the Samuel H. Beer Award for the best dissertation on the subject of British politics in 1997.
Dr. Pickering currently serves as co-editor of the ISA journal Foreign Policy Analysis and associate editor of the International Journal of Peace Studies. He is past president of the Foreign Policy Analysis section of the ISA.
His current research focuses on global patterns of foreign military intervention. In particular, he is examining whether national decision-makers use military intervention as a form of diversionary force and the impact that western military intervention has on economic growth, the quality of life, and the process of democratization in developing states.
Dr. Pickering teaches undergraduate courses on world politics and international conflict as well graduate seminars on international relations, international security, and advanced research methods. |
