Vita

Stephen B. Long, Assistant Professor of Political Science, earned his B.A. from Furman University (1999) and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2001, 2005). He has published articles on the causes of military effectiveness and war duration in the Journal of Conflict Resolution and International Interactions.

His current research focuses on the effects of countries' histories of conflict and cooperation on their international interactions, specifically the initiation of wars and the violation of formal cease-fires. He is also interested in the political causes of military effectiveness and the reputation effects of past military performance. Professor Long teaches undergraduate and graduate (M.A., M.A.S.S., and Ph.D.) courses on international relations, international conflict, and security studies.
