Student of the Week!

LOUIS HOLOMAN

“Louis has worked exceptionally hard this semester! Through coming into the lab for extra hours and make up hours, or saying no to fun things on his floor, Louis has exemplified what it means to live out his priorities. Through his diligence and ability to remain positive through all situations Louis shows perseverance to its highest degree. Not only is Louis focused on his academics, but Louis is dedicated to making others feel welcome to K-State. From befriending his roommate from Saudi Arabia, to smiling to those around him, Louis has helped his peers feel appreciated and included. As a result, I can tell from interacting with Louis that people enjoy his company and appreciate the time that he takes to make them feel welcome. All the more, Louis’s positive attitude and ability to work hard show his genuineness and his strengths! The Pilot’s staff notices these strengths and is grateful for Louis’s ability to invest into his education as well as in building relationships with the people around him. Keep up the great work, Louis! –Connie Beck, Pilots Spring Intern

“My first impression of Louis was that he was so positive. As I got a chance to know him more, I found that he was humble and patient and very easy to work with. Not only that, but Louis was also willing to work hard for what he wanted.” – Joy Chen, Pilots Advisor

Cydney Hutton

CYDNEY HUTTON

Top 5 Strengths: Includer, Woo, Learner, Restorative, Achiever
Major: Elementary Education / Special Education

“Cydney has been very focused and determined since she started at K-State. She wants to be a special education teacher and is working very hard to reach her goal. She is very organized and goal oriented. Cydney is always willing to help out other students when they need it. I have seen her in the lab working with other students and I can see what an amazing teacher she will be.” - Caroline Jones, Pilots advisor

“Sitting around a table in Bluemont 116, our little group was brainstorming topics for the second paper assignment of Expos 100. In response to one student's claim to have had no personal experience relating to the assignment, Cydney Hutton had begun asking questions. Within minutes the student had revealed a wealth of material, and Cydney enthusiastically affirmed this. This particular conversation alerted me to Cydney's great skills at communicating with others and bringing out the best in them. She could see the depth of possibilities in another person's story. Even as she drew all of us into the conversation, however, she demonstrated sensitivity about respecting boundaries; she distanced herself as the conversation grew more personal. Such a skillful combination of abilities--both eliciting conversation and knowing when to step away--is unusual. You go, Cydney! You've got a lot to write about!” –Margaret Burton, Writing PA

TESSIE MELGAREJO

Tessie

Top 5 Strengths:
Major: Open Option

Tessie shows up to all her sessions on time and is ready to go with all her notes. I can tell she is very organized just from looking at her notes. When it comes to sociology, there are not many assignments, but she is always ready to learn material beyond what has been covered in class. In my experience as a Pilots Tutor, the students that tend to do this thrive in this class. I admire the fact that Tessie graduated high school early and is already showing great success this semester. I also appreciate the fact that she is willing to accept help from the pilots program even though she graduated early.
Sociology PA, Kevin Stief

After finishing high school a semester early, Tessie decided to begin her college career right away. As a first semester student, she has made the transition to academic life quite well. The Pilots staff has noticed Tessie’s diligence and hard work toward her studies. She is focused on academics, displays a positive attitude and is performing very well in all of her courses. Keep up the good work, Tessie!
