Fall Semester 2006 - Chapter Undergraduate Scholarships

Fred Fairchild congratulates each recipient of the Chapter Undergraduate Scholarship.
 

Jeffrey E. Elkins

Jeff's majors are history and political science.  

Jeff has held a number of offices in his fraternity, Alpha Tau Omega.   He has volunteered at the Manhattan Breadbasket, the Ronald McDonald house in Kansas City and the Kansas City Arboretum.   He has also served as an umpire at Blue Valley Recreation in Kansas City.

Ashley N. Phipps

Ashley's major is human resources management.

Her community service activities include volunteering at the
Manhattan Emergency Shelter, Special Olympics, the Reitz
Animal Shelter, the Martin Luther King day of service, and
University Open House. She is secretary of the Pre-Law Club.

Lydia Roberts with Fred Fairchild

Lydia M. Roberts

Lydia's majors are chemistry and biochemistry.   She was the recipient of a Johnson Cancer Center undergraduate research award last spring which is allowing her to work with professors on the development of Alzheimer's drugs.

She is president of the Alpha Chi Sigma chemistry fraternity and is active in Women Mentoring Women in the sciences. She has also held a number of offices in her sorority, Alpha Chi Omega.


Adrienne Stolwyk with Fred Fairchild

Adrienne N. Stolwyk

Adrienne's major is architecture with a minor in Spanish.

She was a member of a Community Service Program
international team in Mexico during the summer of 2004,
and she spent two weeks in Peru as part of a Dept. of
Interior Architecture program.

Her other activities include working with Habitat for
Humanity in both Manhattan and Kansas City, serving as
an officer in Students for Environmental Action, and in
Emerging Green Builder, and working on Project Solar House.


Not all of the recipients could be at the Reception, but the following were also recognized as receiving Undergraduate Scholarships:

Kourtney Bettinger

Kourtney is studying in Mexico this semester. Her major fields of study are biology, pre-med, Spanish, Latin-American studies and international studies.

Mathew King

Mathew's majors are political science and natural resources and environmental sciences. He could not be here because he is part of a research team that is conducting focus groups on college student civic engagement all day today
