- Chapter Undergraduate Scholarships
The K-State Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi offers six $500 scholarships each
year. The three requirements are that you be a member of Phi Kappa
Phi, be enrolled full-time, and have a minimum of one semester of
undergraduate study remaining at the time of the award.
Information about the scholarships is distributed in the spring with
the mailing for the PKP spring banquet and initiation.
The application period is usually the month of April, with the deadline
in early May. The recipients are notified by early June, and the
scholarship is awarded at the August enrollment.

Nelda Elder
presents the Chapter Undergraduate Scholarships to:
Jessica Schaeferis majoring
in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Modern Languages
and English as a second language. She is vice president for public
relations for Rotaract and serves on the College of Education Council.
She tutors, especially working with English language learners from
elementary through adult levels.
She has tutored at Jardine Apartments since she arrived, and has served
as a Community Service Program tutor at Bergman elementary school.
She spent the summer of 2004 studying in Spain and has made two Rotary
mission trips to Mexico to help build houses.
She plans to study in Mexico next semester.
Kourtney Bettingeris studying
in Biology, Pre-Medicine, Spanish, Latin-American studies, and
International Studies. She is a member of Mortar Board, Phi Beta
Kappa, and Silver Key. She is also currently president of the
Student Alumni Board and Rotaract. She is also an active member
of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She has taken leadership roles in a number
of campus activities, serving as Silver Key historian, Putnam Hall
philanthropy dept vice president, and Up-til-dawn team captain,
to name a few.
She served in the summers of 2003 and 2004 as a member of Community
Service Program Teams, working with children in Mexico and is now the
Student Coordinator for the CSP international summer teams.
She has performed volunteer work in Manhattan at Mercy Hospital, Head Start,
Manhattan Parks and Recreation and the Riley County Health Dept.
Not all of the recipients could be at the Reception, but the following
were also recognized as receiving Undergraduate Scholarships:
Patrice Holderbachis majoring
in Print Journalism with additional work in International Studies,
American Ethnic Studies and Leadership Studies.
Some of her activities include internships with KC Star, Mother Earth
News, Topeka Capital-Journal/Olathe News. Collegian Editor in Chief,
Fall 2004.
She is currently
studying in France, with a major tour through the British Isles.
She served as Community Service Program English instructor in Yucatan,
summer 2003.
Sarah Meitlis an
Anthropology major. She serves as a teaching assistant for a lab
so could not attend the reception. Some of her other actives include
Smurthwaite Scholarship House; KSU Women's crew team, 2002-4;
Anthropology Club V.P. 2004; Conversation Partner Program FY04;
Physical Anthropology T.A. 2004-present;
In 2004, she studied in Moscow.
Alexandria Serrais majoring
in Kinesiology and Pre-Medicine, with minors in Biology and Leadership
Studies.
Her activities include serving as president of Leadership Studies
Ambassadors and taking the lead in such divers activities as "Lead the
Way 5K" fundraiser, "KSU Students for Organ Donation," the women's
studies social awareness fair, and new student services orientation.
She is a member of the K-State forensics team. She also teaches aerobics.
Laura Woodis majoring in
Political Science and Philosophy with emphasis in Pre-Law.
Some of her activities include Mortar Board, Governor of Sunflower Girls
State 2001-2, SGA senator, Young Democrats Secy/Treas.
She is currently studying political science, music, and religion in the
Czech Republic.
In 2004, she participated in International Experience in China.
