Presentation about the World Trade Center
Memorial Design
|

Robert Arens,
Architecture, Planning and Design |
Dr. Arens was involved in developing the design that was chosen
for the Memorial at the WTC. He showed pictures of the
design and explained the important ideas underpinning the design--
elements of memory, the present, and the future.
Memory--the "footprints" of the two towers is the symbolic resting
place of loved ones and so a somber area is left sunken as memorial
space. This area will be "designer space" for continued design.
Present--the through streets reopening return the site to
New York's regular everyday life.
Future - tall buildings on the site will house vertical
world gardens as public space and eventually private office space.

A picture and article about the design
appeared in the 28 Feb 2003 K-State Collegian.
