You're at a Research University
--Take advantage of it: experience the joy of discovery
Diversify your educational portfolio
-- In class (majors/minors) ... and out of class
- Keep your options for the future open
- Gain "real world" experience along the way
Explore the margins
-- Between disciplines, across disciplines
- Don't get caught in some disciplinary silo (there's plenty of time for that later)
- Some of the most exciting opportunities/discoveries are at the boundaries
Push the envelope
-- Challenge your professors, challenge yourselves
- Don't believe everything you read in textbooks (or everything you're told)
- Don't just do things that are easy
  - Grade aren't everything
  - Determine the breadth and extent of your capabilities
- For the Undergraduates:
  Consider the possibility of getting a Master's while you're here
- For the Graduate Students:
  Consider graduate certificates or clusters outside your major
In the future: Do what you love
-- When it stops being fun, do something else
