National Convention and Leadership Workshops
Phi Eta Sigma holds a national convention and leadership workshops bi-annually. At
the convention, members from around the country meet and form committees to discuss
current issues and to make decisions about the direction of the society. The adviser
and one member or delegate from each chapter may attend at no cost; registration,
lodging and meals are provided. However, transportation is the responsibility of the
chapter or the individuals. Additional members are encouraged to attend for a fee.
The next convention is tentatively scheduled for October 5-7, 2012 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Fortieth National Convention and Leadership Workshops
The 2010 National Convention was held October 1-3, 2010, in Knoxville, TN.
Four members, Rachel Helmke, Jennifer Dawson, Elly Johnson, and Parker Rayl, and adviser,
Monica Strathman attended. The photo was taken at Morningside Park next to the statue
of Alex Haley, author of the book "Roots: The Saga of an American Family." The visit
to Morningside Park was part of the tour of the Knoxville which also included a visit
to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, the University of Tennessee, and the historical
downtown area. The travelers were also able to make time before their return flight
home to visit the Breat Smoky Mountains National Park.
Thirty-ninth National Convention and Leadership Workshops
The 2008 National Convention was held October 3-5, 2008, in Louisville, KY. Adviser, Monica Strathman attended. The convention included a tour of Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby.
