TEXAS MLS
Brief
Description:
The Texas APT program was established in 1995. The APT loading
device used is the MLS machine which is a transportable linear device capable of
applying six single or dual-tire bogies with tandem axles loaded up to a nominal
190KN (42,000lbs), at speeds up to 20km/h (12.5mph). The test pavement length is
11m (36ft) with optional transverse tracking over 0.6m (24 in.). Up to 8,800 axle
loads can be applied in one hour. A fully enclosed environmental control chamber
is used for temperature control. The device can be dismantled and reassembled in
one day and can be jacked up to allow in situ testing. The device was
successfully used for test sections on in-service highways.
