PROJECT TITLE :
|
Adaptability of AASHTO Provisional Standards
for Condition Survey in Kansas (K-TRAN Project: KSU-02-02)
|
|
SPONSOR :
|
Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Kansas
Department of Transportation (KDOT)
|
|
OBJECTIVE :
|
The objective of this
project is to investigate, test and quantify the effect of AASHTO provisional
standards for pavement condition survey on KDOT practices. The project
would oversee an effort to obtain pavement surface condition data by automated
means following the AASHTO provisional standards. The contracted automated
service must also be able to collect data over the sample locations in
a manner consistent with KDOT existing practice, while using automated
means. Consideration will be given to testing of the standards using manual
methods. This project would evaluate the data collection processes and
the data collected to provide information to help KDOT determine the costs
and benefits associated with automated data collection and with incorporation
of the provisional standards. The results of this research should allow
for a possible follow up study by KDOT to evaluate the impacts of the different
data and collection methods on NOS output.
