K-STATE IMPLEMENTS EMERGENCY TEXT-MESSAGING SYSTEM

K-State has added an emergency text-messaging system to its arsenal of communication methods to alert the campus about emergencies.

FINDING THE RIGHT MAJOR

Few questions are more critical to a college student than “What’s your major?” Nobody wants to answer with “Umm, I’ll get back to you on that.”

The Academic and Career Information Center can help your student nail down a major that fits. Your student can chat with an advisor, attend a workshop, explore K-State’s more than 250 majors and options, and discover careers for unlikely majors.

Get your student ahead of the game, and check out ACIC at http://www.k-state.edu/acic/.

K-STATE’S REC COMPLEX—ONE OF THE BUSIEST PLACES ON CAMPUS—IS GETTING BIGGER

In November 72 percent of students who voted passed a referendum to expand and renovate the Chester B. Peters Recreation Complex. The proposed expansion includes a cardio and weight room, an extension of the running track, new multi-activity courts, a dedicated area for rock climbing, and more.

To learn more about the new and renovated features, check out http://www.k-state.edu/yesrec/about.htm.

james marsden achieves academic celebrity

Although some people may know him as actor James Marsden's father, K-State Professor James Marsden is an academic celebrity in his own right. A distinguished professor of animal sciences and industry and a food safety expert who has appeared on network news shows, Marsden came to K-State in 1994 to research E.coli and has been involved in K-State's development of pasteurization technologies used in the food industry.

Learm more about Marsden's research, his rare book collection, and his son's movie premieres here.

ADD THESE DATES TO YOUR CALENDAR

Open House: April 19

If you plan to attend K-State’s Open House, why not volunteer to represent the Parents and Family Association at an information table? It’s a great time to meet other parents (and it’s a good excuse to visit your kid).

You can also make a full day of it, with entertainment, academic exhibits, food, games, and other activities for all ages. And you can top off the day with the spring football game that night.

Check out the full range of options from last year’s Open House at http://consider.k-state.edu/openhouse/

Family Day: September 27

This year’s Family Day is set for September 27, so mark your calendar for a day of activities with your K-State student.  Explore last year’s event at: http://www.k-state.edu/familyday/
